Time for Thomas

With Benjamin Watson not present on the practice field for this morning's practice, rookie David Thomas has an opportunity for expanded repititions. Watson had participated in one of two practices on Friday.

In addition to Watson, fellow tight ends Daniel Graham and Benjamin Watson aren't on the practice field this morning. That leaves just Thomas, a third-round pick from Texas, and newly signed free agent Walter Rasby at the position.

Heath Evans, a running back/fullback by trade, could also get some work at the position.

EXTRA POINTS: None of the 10 players on the team's physically unable to perform list have returned to the practice field this morning. ... Receiver Michael McGrew, who left Friday's afternoon practice with what appeared to be an injury, is present on the practice field. ... Eugene Wilson continued to work at cornerback.

Day 2 at camp

FOXBOROUGH -- Players are making their way to the practice field for the morning practice on the second day of training camp. The workout will be in full pads.

Yesterday's morning workout was also in full pads, while the afternoon practice was in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets.

It's another steamy one here at Gillette Stadium. The current temperature is 74 degrees and there is 78 percent humidity.

One off-the-field note to pass along this morning: Scott Pioli has two new scouts in his personnel department -- Monti Ossenfort and Brian Smith. They replace Matt Russell and Justin Crouse.

Smith was the team's director of football operations from 2004-2005. He's a graduate of Phillips Andover Academy and Providence College. Ossenfort was a personnel assistant for the Patriots in 2003, and worked for the Texans' personnel department the last two years.

Smith had started out unpaid a few years ago picking up after practice before he got the personnel assistant job.
