Belichick, on the loss:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23018125/

“It takes a lot to get to this point, but now it’s starting over, into the ’08 season. It’s already time to move on. We’re into the offseason and that’s just the way it is. We’ll start moving ahead toward next year.”

When you look long and hard at it, you realize that, in the school of Bill Belichick, what most of us seem to be doing is exactly how you don't react to a loss. Don't get depressed, don't hang your head over it. Just figure out what went wrong, fix it, and try again. We've had 16-0, and we've had an 11-5 SB, and we can now say more authoritatiuvely than any other fan that 16-0 means nothing. Next year, lets just win the SB however we can. The fact that 19-0 will probably never happen is irrelevant, becuase, if the Pats win next year, they're the greatest team of all time anyways.

Well said Brady...
It will be August 8th before we know it....

I was moping around for about 24 hours, but in some strange way this loss has almost made me feel like more of a fan.

Here's how I'm dealing with the loss.

I believe it is losses like these that make us appreciate the SB Championships when they come. It's losses like these that remind us that it's not easy to win in this league. It's losses like these that remind us that we're not entitled to anything. It's not pre-ordained that we win anything. When we we win, it'll be due to the fact that our players and coaches work harder and smarter than everybody else.

It's losses like these, that make all the other championship seasons so special.

To me, 2008 is the YEAR OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS.

There's no time to mope around. Get busy. Besides, there's no crying in football (unless you play or root for the San Diego Chargers). GET TO WORK AND FINISH THE JOB IN 2008.

Me too. When I read a similar quote by him. That's why I added it to my sig earlier today. But, I had already moved on too.

Bill is all business...I am sure he will be doing the same thing if we've won...We all love Tedy and Junior.....but it is time to have younger blood to come in....Maybe a elite passrusher, but Bill is on the job...

I've already moved on to preparations for the '08 season. Have you guys?

Guess what, we have the #7 overall pick!

I stil cant move on, and nor I will unless the Patriots are playing in super bowl next year.. This season was about winning it alll. We won every game EVERY GAME , and could not close the deal... By March I will be over it, but this has been a very rough week...

I think the best quote I've heard is from Chris Berman on the 5th Quarter, he said something along the lines of: Don't let what happened tonight make you forget about a wonderful season.

But the maddening thing for me is that I know that the '08 version of the Pats aren't going to be as good as the '07 Pats...I mean, they're going to lose Asante, Stallworth and maybe Moss. Seau's retiring and maybe Tedy. Colvin may be back or not.

And how do you improve on 16-0 and then 18-0. You can upgrade your line but I don't know how you do that...Draft more TE's to help? They clearly need to upgrade their kicker if the coach doesn't have any confidence in the one we have now to kick a 48 yarder in a dome.

I that's the thing I hate going forward. The Pats are going to be worse next season. They'll make the playoffs but I don't know how far they'll get...Maybe they ball will bounce their way next year (and maybe the refs will call offensive PI and McD will get a little less obvious with his play-calling)

But don't forget that the Patriots will be getting back David Thomas and Sammy Morris (who both went down with freak bone injuries), and Chad Jackson should [knock on wood] be ready to go, too.

I'll believe that they don't have confidence in him when I see them draft or sign another kicker. But I don't see that happening, period.

you're on crack if you don't think the pats look good in the playoffs next year.

they'll most likely be better than they were this year.

So you were all about going for it on 4th and 13? At least you had a shot at three points (a makable FG in a dome) instead of turning the ball over anyways with none.

That is how I feel as well, everything was there for them to win it.. But we had a very un Belichick and un Patriot week... which I think they were more overconfident then they will admit... I dont feel good about next season either.. sure we should win the division, but there will be no 16-0, or evene a super bowl.. This team was ment to win the super bowl, and they did not for that reason this season was a waste....

No, I think they went for it because, all in all, they figured that the prospect of gambling for 7 was better than settling for Gostkowski kicking for 3. And, in a sense, they're right--believe it or not, somebody who analyzed thousands of games figured out that, all else being equal, the "return" on going for it is almost always better than on kicking/punting. [About the only time it isn't is if you have extremely unfavorable position, such as 4th and 20 from your own 10. But, surprisingly, the odds are actually slightly in favor of going for it on 4th and 1 from your own 10.]

Again, remember something: Belichick would prefer that Gostkowski NEVER kick a FG; he sees it as a necessary evil more than anything else.

The thing that makes me smile is the fact that next years opponents had a combined .387 winning percentage this year (And that includes the fact we're playing the Colts, Steelers, and Chargers).. People complained about the fact that New England "played no one" this year, when that couldn't have been further from the truth. Can't wait to hear what they say next year, when at first blush 13-3 is the worst I could see.

BB is moving on, so am I.

And never was it more necessary in the last game they played...

I agree. I mean with the loss we clearly proved that we are no where near the best ever and there are definitely areas of improvement we need to sure up. What perfect time other than this offseason to do that? We are definitely an elite team, and with some adjustments this offseason (and morris and colvin being healthy) there is no reason to think we can be better. Also, if we keep our receiving core mainly the same, it will be year 2 for brady to work with his receivers and mcdaniels to work with this offense. There is much to look forward to.
