Now i almost fully understand how the cap works but i'm not exactly down with the nuances and delicate numbers here and there.

I just want to know why that couldn't work? Talib gets the money he deserves, Vince no matter how important or good he was will not be as effective coming back to value that wage so you could cut him and draft at DT and then if you get Revis to renegotiate with a ring orientated rather than money motivated pitch where he still makes big bucks but not as much as he did at TB but he is on a contending team instead. I just wanted to know why that sounds far-fetched.

Talib and Revis together with Dennard in slot? You can literally forget about teams passing on you next season, it makes your team virtually a lock to go to the SB if they're healthy all the way.

If i'm not making sense please break down the numbers as to why it wouldn't.

I wish it would happen, but never will

No...no it doesn't.

Spending our remaining cap $$ on the entire secondary is stupid

Hmm i'm pretty sure it did with the current SB champs. Why is it stupid to have a secondary that NO TEAM would even dare to pass on when you are in a PASSING league.

So you would spend 20+ million a year on two CBs..leaving 0 $$ for DT...DE..WR..S...TE..

You do realize this team has more then just a need at CB right?

Seems to me whenever this team needs a big stop in a big game this crappy secondary especially when it doesn't have Talib won't get it.

DT can be done in the draft, there is nothing wrong at DE and with a great secondary that gives them more time to get to the QB with the opposition covered. I think it's obvious Pats aren't getting a receiver and a TE will definitely be drafted early. The only one i agree with is at safety where money has to be spent but again that is why i said negotiate with Revis if he got released and entice him with potential rings not cash.

773k - Browner
538k - Maxwell
555k - Sherman
610k - Thurmond
7m - Chancellor
3.6m - Thomas

Those are the average salaries of the most recent SB winners major players in their secondary.

Those 6 names combined are about what Revis alone should average per year.

Brandon Browner is the highest paid corner on the roster averaging 773,756 per season.

It doesn't work because even the best corners can't cover forever with a mediocre pass rush.

I was talking more from a philosophy standpoint rather than money wise. When you can shutdown the number 1 pass team ever loaded with weapons with a secondary in a SB then i think it makes it almost as important as having elite offensive weapons.

They work hand in hand, cover receivers better and give your front more time to get to the QB or get to the QB quick so you don't give your secondary all the work to do. The best is the balance that Seattle had but their secondary was better than their front

Assuming we do keep Talib and have the money to lock up Revis.. Yes, it'd be nice to have this insane CB unit, but I'm a proponent of a more balanced roster.. If we could theoretically afford Revis, then I'd much rather spend that money on a Safety, DE, or DT. Or maybe even a center or wide receiver.
