Randy Moss more skills than Jerry Rice?

NEPatriot.

Oui?

Randy has more speed for sure, and more of a me-first attitude in certain situations, for sure.

Rice ran better routes, ran more types of routes, and definitely ran more stuff across the middle of the field with crisp and sharp cuts. He also never seemed to disappear for psychological reasons.

I know that Rice was a better overall player WR, but Im talking about SKILLS. The Moss rookie year and 2007 record year was outstanding . But for example Moss havent the ability that Rice had to get the ball between the numbers

Skills are only part of the equation. Smarts, leadership, situational awareness. Those are skills too! All of these things are critical in making a player. Its like asking who had the "better arm", Payton Manning or Joe Montana. Once you answer that question, answer this one: "Which of those two would you have rather had as your QB?
Top answer your question, NO!

let's list relevant skills:

speed- Moss
quickness- Moss
leaping ability- Moss
quick change of direction-Rice
elusiveness after the catch- Rice
hands-tie (both amazing)
focus- Rice
preparation- Rice
toughness- Rice
stamina- Rice
desire- Rice
consistency of performance- Rice

jerry rice could also block.

I would say rice was more talented since he ran a wider array of routes.

Can somebody please throw this thread in with all the other dumb threads please?

Joe Montana could only play in the West Coast offense, so unless i was playing that offense, I would pick Manning.

It's a close call, but Rice is the better player to me.

But Rice did have an elite qb for most of his career!

Moss' seasons in Oakland didn't exactly do him any good

Doesn't Moss play every down? Rice played forever, but Moss has had like 7 1,000 yard seasons... that is pretty consistant. Moss prepares as well as anybody. You'll never find anyone that says Moss doesn't work hard.

To all those that think Rice was this perfect player. You know who Rice mentored in San Fran right?

Terrell Owens.

rice had 11 consecutive 1000 yard seasons, and 14 in all......just sayin

rice had a 1000 plus yard season when he was 40

I think so

At least now we know that Randy Moss does infact read this board and contributes under the name "Simkin".

Nice to meet you Randy, for the second time. Enjoyed hanging out with you and Faulk in Atlanta last year.

Rice, hands down. It isn't even close.

Just look at the playoff production. Rice was a big-game performer. His level of play rose when the going got tough.

Virtually every statistical category over the length of a career favors Rice at this point by a mile.

Including loads of superbowl rings.

Jerry Rice is the best ever until further notice, and it does not appear that Moss will be the one knocking on his pedestal.

Jerry Rice certainly had a lot of things going for him but he was a lot more like Moss then people (including himself) would like to admit. I remember him dropping a TD and falling to the ground only to kick and punch at the ground for a few seconds, I also remember him tossing the ball before scoring a TD with nobody around him in the playoffs against the Giants (similar to DeSean Jackson). Thank god for Jerrys image that he had a good team for most of his career.

And how can people say Jerry has better endurance? Moss runs deep more often then anyone else in league history. I will say Jerry was a better route runner and more physical off of certain routes (comebacks, he was great at turning it into 6, for example)
