First off, I am thrilled that Big Sey has resigned/extended. Despite my criticisms of his "injuries" last year, he forced me to recant my position and proved me wrong when he came back and so greatly improved our late season defense.

I am glad he's on our side and glad he's going to be on our side for a long time now!

However, I read somewhere where a player can't renegoiate his deal twice in one year.

Seymour renegotiated for one year last July/August, which means that he could not technically renegotiate until August 2006, correct?

They are saying he "won't sign until August"...

Isn't that kind of circumventing the spirit of the law? Renegoatiate whenever you want, but just wait until enough time passes to actually sign...

My fear is that some Pats hater (i.e.: Bill Polian) might b!tch to the league and the deal would get voided or negated and he would become a free agent or something...

Is that even possible?

Please, ease my fear on this!

Search the threads for AdamJT13's posts, if he doesn't get a raise for this year then he can sign it now. There's a decent chance that's happening as the contract has been sent to the NFL already.

As BelichickFan says, the key is a "raise" within the same 12 month period.

Also, I'm not 100% sure that clause is in the NEW CBA, which is what prevented anyone from doing the 2 raises in the same 12 month period previously, but I would assume so.

In any event:

1. contract can be approved now by the NFL and signed up, if there is no raise prior to August of this year, I believe.

2. contract can probably be approved now by the NFL, for signing in August on the 366th day after last year's renegotiated deal was signed, even if there was a raise last year.

3. I don't think this violates the language or the spirit of the rule at all. It certainly isn't designed to prevent negotiations ro agreements -- just too much ratcheting up of a player's salary in a short timeframe.

Excellent.

Thanks for the clarification, all...

I will check out AdamJT13's posts, on this topic...

I heared Tom Curran say last night that Bob Kraft is filing for an exception with the NFL so the deal can be signed.

They think that they will get it approved as it is in everyones best interest to do it now.

Possible deal parameters

The Pats have to pick up an option for a future season by August.
