Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Chiefs

This is the new NFL though. Last year’s Super Bowl was a preview of what the new normal is. Defense isn’t gonna stop the other team, they just have to slow them down enough so your offense can put up enough points. Look around the league, it’s happening everywhere.

Good defenses are gonna be the ones that can get turnovers, not those that can stop the other team with consistency. Thank the rules committee for that one.

Fortunately tonight showed we can hang with the best of them, and with Gordon and Michel coming on in addition to our stable of Super Bowl champs, we are poised to do some damage.

The defense gave up two 60+ yard TD's in the most important spots. The offense never punted the ball, had longer sustained drives and the Chiefs still scored 40.

The defense did a great job in the first half. But they were a train wreck in the second.

The offense stopped being able to convert third downs and turned the ball over twice. I don't understand why a unit with the GOAT QB, GOAT TE, White, Edelman and Gordon gets a pass for all this inconsistency but the less talented defense gets **** on.

If not for those two bombs it would have been an amazing defensive performance. With those it is just meh.

Jason McCourty also caught up to Hill on one play. I was amazed.. He showed more speed than I thought he had..

Hunt ran a hell of a route. Literally right past Harmon and D-Mac but J-Mac also got lost halfway.

I recall him catching up to Hunt on his TD (although too late) but not Hill.

I’m sorry....as exciting as that was, there was a ton of sh*tty football on both sides

It doesn’t matter who your qb is.....if they can’t wvwn stop barner, you run....period....no excuses if thenpats pick up in the 3rd where they left off at the half, there would have been no crazy 4th quarter.....they could have had over 300 yards on the ground.....first drive they abandoned the run in the 3rd quarter and it was not the same the rest of the way

They cut off BB for Kirmit Mahomes??

Keep repeating yourself but you will not be any closer to being right. You will see most of this reflected by what Lazar or Chatham will say about the game.

The offense for all the talent on it (Brady, White, Gronk, Gordon, Edelman) looked inconsistent. The defense for all the lack of talent did its job through the entire game to give this team a chance to win the game.

The Hightower pick and Brady fumble alone are a 14+ swing where the offense did **** nothing and the defense got screwed.
Lmaoooooo. 43 points. Won on a last second FG. They gave up 40 points. 31 in the last half hour of the game. But yeah, they played well! Brady sucked! If it wasn’t for him.... You sounded, and still do sound like, a total moron.

1. 43 points scored by the offense. The defense scored 0 of them.

2. The Chiefs entered halftime with 9 points. They ended the game with 40. That’s 31 scored in the second half.

Now, you can choose to believe that’s good defense. But I will have to question whether you’ve ever seen good defense or not. This very team used to play it.

1. Im giving the D credit for 7 pts. You pick off a pass and bring it to the opp 3, I’m giving that side of the ball credit for the score.

We played some solid defense in the first half. I can’t say the same for half#2.

They should be playing more two safety sets against teams that have burners like Hill. In addition, Devin McCourty should stop being played close to the LOS, because he clearly can't cover as a CB like he used to. DMac/Harmon two safety sets or even consider moving Harmon as the hybrid FS/CB that DMac played. Watching DMac play close to the LOS is painful this season, Idk if it's age or something else.

You are the one who just make things up again. I didn't say Brady sucked. I said the offense was as inconsistent as the defense and that I have higher expectations for a unit with Brady, Gronk, Edelman, Gordon and White than for what we have on defense.

Reading comprehension.

They need to play like that the entire game if they want to win the Super Bowl. They basically schemed their way into confusing him in the first half. Once he figured that out, we couldn’t stop him.

I want to be mad at the defense for the 2nd half, but I can’t. In the 2018 NFL, that **** is gonna happen. Especially when playing a very good (if a bit overhyped) KC team that has a lot of weapons/tools to get the ball to. When Tom Brady was 25, “outlast” meant playing efficiently on O and scoring 20-some points and trusting your D to keep it under that. In 2018 sometimes it means scoring in the 30s/40s and avoiding dead drives/punting. A lot has changed...some of the norms we might have expected of a mid-00’s Pats team are extinct. They have everything they need to make another run, and tonight’s game was actually a pretty good example of that if you can separate your historical expectations from reality.

I may be in the minority but I didn't think the defense was that great in the first half. Yes they had two interceptions. One was a good one in the other one was thrown right to Hightower.

This Patriots team was clearly lucky to hold them two three field goals in the first half. They couldn't do that in the second half and the Chiefs exploded for 31 points.

Game wouldn’t have even been this close if coach let ghost just kick the ball out of the end zone. Gave them 3 short fields, with one being inside the 5. Great game though.

I had the same thought after week 2 when it was clear Pats dont have a reliable coverage unit this year. Game has its own situational flow and could be close regardless . but they certainly make it harder on themselves this way.

The other reason is kicks for touchbacks make more sense in general with new rule of no run start for coverage unit.

The other side of the argument is that BB wants to take advantage wherever possible and its up to ST coach to give him the opportunity. Also this is still evaluation time and if coverage game does not improve I wouldn't be surprised by a ST addition at trade deadline..

You can't say "without those two plays". They were absolutely critical plays. They pissed down their leg in the second half.
