Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Chiefs

Pats defense really had some terrible plays in the 2nd half, but overall I think our defense will be able to manage better down the stretch compared to the chiefs which isnt a high barometer.
Chiefs need a major improvement in their D if they are going to make any difference in the AFC .

The offense needed 43 points and a last minute field goal to win. The defense did not do its job. Sorry to tell you, but your take in the game thread was brain dead. Just take the mulligan.

Its situational football. Tom's fumble turned the tide. D and O played well until that point with only ST coverage missing on another solid complementary football game.

“The defence did not do its job“ is lame. Three defensive RZ stops and two interceptions in 1st half allowed NE to play from the front (like BB and TB asked for) after a shaky start by offense . and that was one of the keys to win this game that was always going to be tough on D..

I wish we were in KC so we could leave the defense there

Thank goodness for the GOAT and Gost
Actually if you discount the KO return and the TD off the Brady fumble, the D gave up 26 points. That sounds like a lot, and it is, but it's against the hottest offense in the league coming into tonight's game. Not to say there isn't room for improvement.

PatsFans posters have so much anxiety about Rodgers that he’s now showed up multiple times in the post game thread in a game where we played the Chiefs.

I don’t have any “anxiety” you Douche.

Just get tired of hearing over and over about an under achiever being the best in the league. Then followed by excuse after excuse.

It'll get lost in the shuffle, but Gostkowski did a hell of a job today going 5 for 5 in FGs and 4 for 4 in XPs, every one of them key, and a 50 yarder and 48 yarder among them. A good day for him to be rock solid.
And every one of them no doubt, right down the middle.

Crowell 430 yards (6 games)
Michel 400 yards (5 games)

One thing i was shocked by - how pats played cover zero against this team . Even on the play which resulted in a punt where mcourty almost picked off the pass.

For someone who claims to be Hawaiian you seem to be wound pretty tight. Can I offer you a Mai Tai? It might help you R-E-L-A-X.

After reflecting on this and from @KontradictioN 's suggestion that Gronk may have a high ankle sprain, I'm quite confident to say at least this for certain: he is not able to jump right now. There were several times they had a spread formation near the end zone and Gronk was single covered on the outside with a massive height advantage. Normally that's an obvious fade pass with a high success rate. In addition, every ball he's caught has been thrown to hit him in stride. Normally, you'll see Brady float at least 2-3 balls to Gronkowski, even when covered, that require him to out-jump the defender. We haven't seen that since week 1.

That makes me quite confident that Gronk is being severely hampered by an injury rather than just slowing as part of the aging process. Hopefully it isn't a high ankle sprain because those can take a full season to heal. Whatever it is, though, I think defenses have caught onto it and that's why they're putting quicker, smaller players on him. His straight line speed doesn't seem to be as badly effected (example: that last catch).

Definitely worth noting. The Patriots' O frequently looked out of sorts to start the season. As time goes by it appears to be getting in better sync and becoming the potent O we are all accustomed to (we of the spoiled fan base ).

If the D can just bring it together, bring it up to a consistently 'just ok' level? From a complimentary football perspective the Patriots will again be ready to make a run at the SB (with injuries unfortunately always being the wildcard).

For anyone who says "the Patriots can't go anywhere with this D", 2011's one WW dropped pass says hi.

Could finish 2nd in OROTY. I'm thinking Barkley first. Might be others out there who deserve recognition as well.

And he's playing with a bummed knee.
Imagine once he gets healthy

The "new-look" NFL, where over-emphasis on offense = basketball in cleats.

It almost feels like the steroids era in baseball. It's so ridiculous that Mitch Trubisky and Brock Osweiler are dueling near 400 yards each and hitting the 30 point mark. This is why Super Bowls, wins, etc. is so important long-term. Just as I was typing this I saw a graphic come up saying that Matt Ryan just passed Joe Montana for passing TDs...and there you go. Passing stats will never matter because they'll just keep going up. The average QB rating is now equivalent to Joe Montana's career QB rating, which at the time was the highest ever. This is a really watered down league that is making defenses virtually irrelevant. The only good thing is (though maybe not for the Patriots), it's making it less important who your QB is, since any QB starts may just put up a 5-TD game with 485 yards (but they might lose too.)

I blame the kicking game more than the defense for how close the game was (although the D didn't help itself). A squib kick when we're ahead? Not one, but TWO short kickoffs when KC is known to have a great return game? C'mon man! Agreed on the Goat and the Gost, although that fumble by Brady was an ugly, uncharacteristic mistake. Throw it away TFB (you were still awesome).
