Here's the situation; Monday morning notes
by Paul Perillo, Patriots Football Weekly

As the Patriots began preparations for the preseason opener Friday at Tampa, Bill Belichick continued to drill his team on various situations inside Gillette Stadium.

...

Who’s hot:

Wesley Britt –
Most people felt the right tackle spot was a two-man battle between Nick Kaczur and Ryan O’Callaghan. Add Britt’s name to the list. For the second straight day the Alabama product line up at right tackle with the first group.

Who’s not:
Sammy Morris – Morris again had trouble holding onto the football, dropping a quick screen and then mishandling a squib kick moments later. For a player with intentions on being a third-down back, Morris needs to work on catching the ball better.

Play of the practice:
Randall Gay turned in a terrific play when he knocked away Brady’s pass intended for Wes Welker in the end zone. Welker was trying to beat Gay to the left corner on a third-and-goal play but Gay dove to prevent the touchdown.

Extra points
In addition to the five members of PUP, Randy Moss, Rashad Baker and Kyle Brady all missed practice. Asante Samuel also remained out of uniform as he refuses to sign him franchise tender. … With the ball at the 12 for a third-and-goal play, the Patriots lined up six defensive backs at the goal line. Brady tried to hit Benjamin Watson in the back of the end zone but the pass was knocked away. … Kareem Brown, who got a late start to camp while serving a suspension, line up at right defensive end with the third defensive line. … The Patriots will hold another practice inside the stadium this evening at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to season-ticket holders only and fans attending will need tickets to gain entrance. The next practice open to the public is Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. on the regular practice fields.
