* The Patriots worked out free-agent defensive end Kemp Rasmussen earlier this week. Rasmussen (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) enters his fifth NFL season in 2006, playing the first four years of his career with the Panthers. Rasmussen, primarily a backup, has played in 50 games. He is considered a solid special teams player. The 27-year-old entered the league in 2002 as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana.

The guy is pretty small for a 3-4 DE. So, either BB really wants to shore up ST or its a sign that more DL are needed for the future use of the 4-3 into more gameplans. Will be interesting to see how things unfold. Kloecko is surely gone tho. BB is at it again, FA to shore up the team to be ready for the season so draft picks dont have to be picked based on need. Damn, this guy is brilliant.

Or camp fodder, time's up. Camp fodder, time's up.

I think you're on to something, Tex.

The real question is which one kicks a better field goal. Rasmussen is a good special teams player so......

Um, neighbor, that fantasy makes no sense. First, Klecko would be an excellent three-technique DT (think Eagles or in this case, Panthers). Rasmussen at 6'3" 265 could be an OLB candidate - that is how that DE they picked up a few years back, Vrabel I think his name was, came to be used. BB has his base 3-4, that isn't changing any time soon.

VERY possible...I would think he would do that...there is never one solution always many. I LIKE IT!!! When I saw his name a few minutes ago, that also came to mind....not DE but OLB in the Patriot sense. sign him up...NOW!!

What you said, good vision, this would be a real find or training camp fodder..

He sounds like a Vrabel clone. The Pats probably wanted to see if he had enough althletic ability to play linebacker. Worst case scenerio he is a hard working special teamer.

There's BB again, taking looking at many ways not just one to solve a problem. Go for it!!

Wow, I forgot just how deep into the talent pool Belichick dives come free agency. This looks to be a solid move, clearly to replace the depth at OLB. Can't predict how good he'll be, there's very little on him. At the very least we'd be replacing Matt Chatam here (a depth OLB/special teamer).

Who knows, we're due to strike unknown free agent gold again, right?

Yes, absolutely -- who knows, he could be the new Rodney Bailey? (Sorry, Kool-Aid appears to have funny taste.)

True. Of course, Klecko is camp fodder this year.

Could also be a Matt Chatham ST replacement.
