Pats interested in Derrick Mason?

That was Mark Clayton that dropped a crucial pass because he heard foot steps, not Mason. Mason torched us on the 1st drive and hung on to a TD while getting hit by 2 different guys, IIRC.

You've probably been confusing Clayton and Mason for years based on your scouting report of the guy. It's pretty widely known the guy is tough as nails.
Yeah I really don't know what he is thinking but that was obviously Clayton.

Didn't he almost retire last year to be convinced not to by the Ravens? This guy would be a great Patriot but I feel like he's not open to changing teams. Just my opinion.

Doesnt need to necessarily be addressed through just free agency, trades are possible too and I think that is the route that the Patriots need to go. They cannot be afraid to give up a draft pick in order to get a superior impact player.

The unrestricted FA that I would like the Pats to go after is Antonio Bryant, he is 28 years old, and hasnt really played for a team with a good QB. Browns, 49ers and Bucs, give him Brady as his QB and his production will jump.

Attitude problems keep coming up when you hear about Bryant.

Age means nothing if you can't do your job.

Bryant for me is as big a risk as any of the top WRs in the draft, so if I'm going to look at age as a factor then I'll take a good prospect in the draft. If I want assured production next season I'm taking Mason because you will get that barring injury.

I apologize, that was Clayton not Mason. You are still making Mason out to be a much better player than he actually is. He has maybe 1 year left in the league and the one year rent a player is not the philosophy that is going to get the Pats to being a team that is feared in the league. They cannot be afraid to deal a draft pick for a guy in his prime or spend the money on a proven dominant player.

Many players with so called attitude have came to NE and changed their ways, I dont think this is an issue.

Age is most certainly a factor when you constantly get guys that are nearing the end of their careers who cannot produce as much as someone that is in their prime or just entering it.

Bryant has proven that he can be successful in the NFL. I think he would be even better playing with Tom Brady, he has put up decent numbers despite playing on bad teams with terrible QBs. Mason has probably one year left of his career, why spend the money on a guy for one year when WR will probably be another need next off season.

Firstly its all about 2010 now, you want to look to the future as well but 2010 is the most important thing.

To this point Mason has always been a better WR than Bryant, how can you say that there is only one season left in Mason? He has kept producing consistently all through his thirties.

Next year we also have two first round picks as things stand right now, we would have a big opportunity to use one of them to nab a big name if we needed one then.

Yeah you are right, 2010 is the main focus but you cannot ignore the future, that just isnt how good organizations operate.

Mason hasnt always been better than Bryant, look at 2008. Bryant had 1,248 yards while Mason only had 1,037. Mason has also played full seasons, there have been seasons that Bryant has missed a few games. Also Mason has had Flacco as his QB in recent years while Bryant had Freeman last year and Jeff Garcia and Brian Griese.

Mason is 36 years old, and said he was going to retire last year. There are more signs that point to his career coming to an end rather than signs that he has a few more years in him.

Yeah we do have 2 1st rounders next year, but what if we could add a Boldin type of a guy this off season or someone that would be here more than 1 season, this would ease the WR need a little next off season and not force us to use one of our 1st on a WR
