Kight signed

The Patriots have signed free-agent wide receiver Kelvin Kight, a first-year player most recently with the Vikings.

Kight, who was released by the Vikings on July 26, has taken the field for this afternoon's practice and is wearing No. 2. He will replace Michael McGrew on the roster. McGrew has been placed on the "reserve/left camp" list.

The Patriots' depth is thin at receiver and Kight adds to the players at the position.

Looks like we've got another Florida WR on the roster...for the moment at least.

Pats sign Kelvin Kight

He's a first year player..5'11" 213..from Florida...was in Vikings mini-camp 24 years old...Michael McGrew left camp, so he's on the "reserve/left camp" list. Freeman played in the NFLE, so no one needs to be cut.

I'm sorry ...

... but I'm seriously worried about this signing.

Think about it: Kevin Kasper, Kliff Kingsbury, Kurt Kittner and now Kevin Kight. It's obvious -- alliterative "K" names are not TIGHT for football players.

I'm sorry to say this (really sorry, actually) but....K(ight) is about as tight as you can get.

This is what NFLDraftscout.com had to say about Kight when he was coming out of college:

Kelvin developed into a standout big-play specialist for the Gators, in addition to performing on special teams as a kickoff returner…He started 20 of 46 games for the Gators, participating in 1607 plays…Closed out his career with 90 receptions for 1282 yards (14.2 avg) and six touchdowns, adding 320 yards on 15 kickoff returns (21.3 avg).

They also had this to say:

Positives: .....Shows natural hands to catch away from his body’s frame and secures the ball firmly before turning upfield…More of an intermediate possession-type due to a lack of top-end speed, but makes fluid body adjustments to haul in the ball…Gives good effort and has the vision to locate and lock on to defenders blocking for the ground game in the second level…Self-starter who will do the little things to improve and sets a good example for the younger teammates.
Negatives:Toned, but could use better muscle definition (not ripped)…Straight-line runner who gets too high in his cuts in the short area…Lacks the sudden burst needed to separate upfield (more comfortable in the short area and does not have the speed to run past defenders)…Has a passion for the game, but loses concentration when he is not involved in the action for long stretches

He could be someone who comes out of nowhere to make a difference if he still has the hands and vision they talk about.
