Patriots sign James Vaughters to a future/reserve contract
I don't know a lot about this player but it is the timing and the contract that is interesting.
BB has probably had his eye on this player for a while and when BB signs these kind of contracts he usual sees something in the player he likes.
A guy worth keeping an eye on next year probably.
Edit:
A little more on him.
He looks like a mix of Nink and Mayo (pre-injury) to me. He definitly looks at home as a DE pass rusher and at 260 lbs is suprisingly agile when it comes to sideline to sideline speed though he seems almost slower in straight line. He seems to easily turn straight line momentum to sideways momentum which i don't see often at 260. Also he is good as being disciplined in his gap.
He seems to get the game and doesn't over pursue. The play where he had 2 guys in front of him lined up as WRs with a guy behind them and instantly cuts between them on the snap before they could get in their blocking lane to make a tackle for a loss was one of my favorites. He has the ability to reaction before the play if he reads it but also has the ability to let the play come to him.
At 6'2 260lbs he fits the mold of a typical patriots LB size wise. The times i did see him drop into coverage he looked pretty comfortable doing it.
Overall seems like an intriging prospect worth taking a look at who can also play STs. Seems like a guy with a lot of tools and places where he can potentially succeed in the NFL but IDK how much will translated.
