He was a monster in Jacksonville, going to three straight Pro Bowls from 2003-2005. Still only 32 years old although it seems like he's been around a lot longer than that.

Comment: He is a run-stuffing defensive end in the 3-4 defense. .....at his best when the Bills let him play on the edges. He shows very good first-step quickness and plays with very good leverage in the run game.....still an explosive playmaker who can make plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage.

I don't know about that. He is 32 years old. Ty Warren is coming of a season ending injury. What they could have is the luxury of tremendous depth on the DL with a stud draft pick, Wilfork, Warren, etc. I wonder if this means G. Warren wont be back.

Even more? I wouldn't read anything into it. Veteran depth and mentor, maybe, he'll be 33 in June and this is his 11th season in the league. Gerard Warren circa 2011.

One must wonder if Belichick saw the Jets and Dolphins looking into Stroud so he picked him up quick.

Kind of unusual to see the Pats pick up a well known player so early while they normally sit and wait for some serious action to commence first

No signings allowed during lockout. Considering DL depth was a major issue as this team entered the playoffs, a classic BB move adding depth before the draft. The $$ of the contract will tell us the reality of how they view this signing

How about this...it's now unlikely that they spend TWO of their top 3 picks on DEs.

This is the best draft crop of 3-4 DEs in years. If you have a shot at a top one, you take it.

This in no way means we aren't picking up a 5-tech with one of our top 3 picks. Stroud couldn't handle the 3-4 scheme in Buffalo, why do you think he could do it here? What he brings to the table is depth at defensive end, and a very good DT for that 4-man front we trot out in nickel packages.

Agreed. He could easily be cut in camp ala Damion Lewis. Although Stroud seems to still be able to play.

Who knows about G. Warren. The team may want him back, but seems doubtful.

Ty should be ok for camp.

It would not suprise me if they still drafted a 3-4 DE
