Patriots Defense vs Broncos Offense

I'm more confident about this game than I was about the Colts game. In the week 12 game our banged up secondary limited their passing game. Dennard didn't finish the game and Talib missed a few plays in OT. Gregory was out and I believe Arrington was playing hurt. They all look healthy now.

It was also in crazy cold and windy temps. Supposed to be nice and mild in Denver. The weather will not help us this time around. We are healthier on D but less so on O w/o Gronk. I am super nervous.

In that particular game, the Broncos really didn't pass much up until it was too late. Some of this was planned by Belichick, but i don't think we're gonna see the same script Sunday. Just as i don't think the Patriots will run the ball as much as they do nowadays, and definitely not nearly as much as they did against my Colts. Why would they? The Broncos are much better against the run than against the pass.

The weather may have played a role, but our pass defense that game was brilliant. They had one good drive where they were able to pass on us. Meanwhile, we put up huge numbers through the air in same weather.

I predict we hold them to under 20 points.

Brady is a better cold weather/wind player than Manning. Plus they didn't have Thomas. This game will be different. We need to keep them off the field!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the Pats key to a win is to limit the number of touches PM gets. If NE can establish a running game and control the pace, it could be a long day for Denver. With the news that Harris most likely has a torn ACL and will be out for the remainder of the season, you can bet Brady/Belichick will test whomever replaces him if they are forced to pass...

Denver also needs to establish the run. With Ball gaining some confidence it will give Moreno a much needed break as they will be able to utilize a 2 back system. If Denver can run the ball early in order to give PM some breathing room on passing plays, it could be a long day for the Pats.

I can really see this game going either way and most likely coming down to the last drive of the game yet again. Best of luck!

I will be thrilled if Denver runs the ball as it shortens the game and takes the ball out of their best playmakers. Thomasx2, Decker and Welker are scary. Not really afraid of Moreno and Ball. They are solid but not as scary as the passing options.

On O, Denver will be ready for a running attack. I am curious if they press the receivers and crowd the LOS and dare Brady to beat them deep and if so how do the Pats respond? Crowding the line is dangerous because if Blount or Ridley break through the DBs will not be able to take them down easily if at all. A very good chess match.

Good point regarding crowding the LOS... I think Denver may load the box early in order to contain the run in order to see if Brady's receiving corp can beat the Bronco DB's... Not thrilled about this prospect of "daring" Brady to beat you as I have seen the end of that movie too many times....

That movie had a different supporting cast!

Edelman and Amendola are solid but if Dobson can play the passing game opens up a bit more I think. Lets be honest, the Denver passing attack is 10x better. The Pats need to win on D, SP and the run game.

Kicking game should be a wash (if we can find a punter).

The matchups are fairly clear but as has been touched on a few times, a solid pass rush is a must. The Chargers got no rush on him. I realize he always takes few sacks but we must hurry him. Numerous times we had excellent pressure on Luck and he made tremdous throws than Manning won't (can move the same nor does he have the arm anymore). Our CB matchups are solid but without pressue it'll be a problem.

IMO if Denver decides to win via passing, PM will be throwing a lot of quick hits in order to negate the pass rush. Look for numerous quick screens that allow the Denver WRs the opportunity to make plays.

I am OK with this as it keeps the ball in front of the D. I think Talib, Dennard, McCourty, Arrington and Ryan all have good ball skills and will tackle as well. The Colts staff definitely underestimated Dennard in my opinion. Welker could be tough though.

How do you guys think we match up with the Broncos? some of my co-workers are convinced they are going to destroy us next week and that the chargers have a better matchup than us defensively against them and we wont be able to keep pace

I actually think we match up pretty decent.

D. Thomas - Talib.......Talib is healthy as he has been since the beginning of the season. I dont expect him to win every matchup but he should be competitive and limit him.

Decker - Dennard.........Last game decker had 1 catch. ryan/dennard shut him down. I dont think he is a WR who performs when you can be physical with him.

arrington-welker....Arrington should be familiar with welkers tendencies going against him all those years in practice. he wasnt a large factor in the last game.

wildcard here is Jamie Collins vs. Julius Thomas.

The best thing the Broncos do is pass. For only the first or second time this year the Pats have their complete secondary healthy; and it doesn't include Marquies Cole types playing either.

The Broncs have

Thomas, Decker, Thomas, and Welker, plus a RB.

We now have 4 capable CBs, Talib, Dennard, Arrington, Logan, and McCourty FS, and a good TE covering OLB.

So we can neutralize a great passing game, finally.

We invited the Broncs to run last time, but Siliga has done much to add stoughtness, and size to the DL. Historically, we have not been too successful, pass rushing Manning from outside. Other teams have succeeded, with an interior pass rush. For the first time in forever, we can do that too. Our pass rush is much better and it comes from the interior (16 sacks), as well as the ends (27 sacks).

Many running teams cannot pass, because the QB is ill equipped to do so. But the Pats have TFB. All he lacks is some healthy outside receiver. You can't win with only an inside passing game, but an inside passing game PLUS a dominant running game, is another kettle of fish.

Still we are playing in Denver, on the road.
