Patriots Armond Armstead May Finally Be Ready to Get to Work

And to take it a step further.....no way BB spends all that money at CB and ignores bolstering a key component, interior DL, that will enable the new secondary to shine. Without QB disruption, man to man can only be effective for so long. BB has one year of Revis....he's gonna want to create the most bang. You put a star on the field, you remake the defense. Think Moss in 2007.

All I have to say is 48 sacks/season and at least 14 sacks from the interior rushing positions, 11 of which came from the DTs. If that is so terrible I'd like to know what is merely average in your lexicon.

I was reading somewhere that compared Armstead's potential to that of his former college teammate, Jurrell Casey. If that's Armstead's ceiling, I would be extremely happy. Both are around 305lbs (Armstead is 6'5 while Casey is 6'1) and flash pass rushing ability and quickness from the DT spot (both are 3 techs no?).

Any validity to that comparison?

None at all. Being the same weight but 4 inches shorter gives you a way different skillset and physical make up. Casey can play the 3 tech and probably NT as well, Ray Horton has to find the answer to that question.

Armstead projects to a LDE in the NFL.

KC had one of the most feared pass rushes in the league last year. In two games they hardly touched Manning.

You can't get near Peyton in that D offense unless you hammer his receivers at the line (note the new proposed rule change - gee, wonder where that came from). Pats didn't have the ability to do that in the AFCCG, particularly after Talib got hurt.

I rewatched some of Armstead's college and CFL highlight, and man that guy is nimble for being 300+ plus pounds. Incredible quickness from the DT spot; he also had masterful swim and rip moves that created pressure in a hurry. Only thing he really needs to change is he tends to let his pad level get high... other than that I could see him having a pretty big role having him and Chris Jones come in as interior rushers on third down for Vince and Kelly.

As far as Peyton goes, I think by improving our secondary we have improved our pass rush. I would love to see BB and Matty P break out some new blitz packages or just bump and run on the outside play Collins in the hook zone and send Mayo and Hightower on double A gap blitz.
