There is a slight chance that one team doesn’t get the ball in a regular season game that goes into OT. If the team that gets the ball first goes on a long drive that uses up the ten minutes and scores. Troy Vincent was on Moving the Chains this afternoon on NFL radio discussing it.

Or keep it the way it was and get rid of the coin toss. Home team gets the choice. In the small percentage of games it matters it’s part of having home field advantage. BTW college overtime sucks and is far more unfair if that’s anyone’s concern. Going second is always a massive advantage. NFL is doing the same thing by guaranteeing a team a possession.

I honestly like your proposed solution as well! At the very least, both teams know before the game even begins who has the choice to start OT and that can be accounted for in coaching decisions late in games. I like that it boosts the importance of the home field advantage as well. The thing that sucks about the OT coin toss is that it's random and cannot be planned for. When both teams know ahead of time how the OT will start, that has to factor in the decision making and game management, so teams will have to look at themselves in the mirror if it happens that they didn't get a chance with the ball in OT.

I also very much agree that getting the ball second is a huge advantage under the college overtime format and the current NFL setup.

I'm for sudden death, next team to score wins. In regulation, both teams have numerous opportunities to win the game but fail for whatever reason. Why reward them for their failures.

First it was the Colts for many years. Now KC is still stinging after that 2018 loss at home. Love the TD rule, it’s the ultimate in your face fu to their defense. Glad they ended the fg ends it but to be honest I don’t like the new rule. 10mins is just silly. Keep it the way it was with TD ends it.
