T.his is all about increasing revenues through luxury suites and corporate revenues. In his application Kronke notes that if a superbowl was held in his new stadium as currently configured it will add $50MM to the superbowl revenues.
There is nothing wrong with the Jones Dome in St Louis. The building is just 20 years old. There was nothing wrong with the old Giants Stadium. The sight lines were great for fans. The ONLY things that new stadiums are good for are the size of the video screen, and the amount of money the stadium can squeeze from rich people and corporations who really don't give a damn about the games they are watching.
LA has had 20 years to prove that they aren't worthy of a team, nor do they really want one. Despite the size of the metro LA area, and that that are the 2nd largest media market in the country, they have been unable to keep 2 teams financially solvent. Do they REALLY think the 3rd time is the charm?
Right now, the way the league is structured it would be very hard for a team to "fail" in any location. Christ, GB succeeds financially. However it is a very long step from being a failure to being the kind of success that warrants ripping one or two franchises from long term markets, all of whom have supported their teams for at least 2 decades.
