The Patriots are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of former assistant coach and defensive coordinator Steve Sidwell, who passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the age of 78.

Sad news... RIP Coach

I remember him as a very good defensive coordinator. RIP

Yup, Ernie Zampese's timing offense killed us those years...not Sidwell's D...

RIP, Sidwell. Not that much older than Carroll/Belichick....

The timing offense was fine. Ernie was OC for many top offensive teams.

The issue was the QB who ran it and the degradation of talent on the field.

Defenses pre rules changes were more creative, had identities and a lot more fun to watch. Now all defenses looks the same.

Sidwell was a fine defensive coordinator, but injuries, draft failures and letting Willie Clay go in favor of Chris Carter led to the entire staff's downfall.

Steve coached most of the best linebackers we ever had. RIP

I remember him making Marino look foolish.

Jimmy Hitchcock was a bit of a stud for us during those years.

Then why use a timing offense with said statute of a QB and a so-so offensive line?

Jimmy Hitchcock was pretty good then went to MN and had a career year.

Isn't he in jail now?

He was sentenced to 4 years in fed lock up back in 2014....presumably he's out by now...
