St Peter’s over Kentucky. Has to be the biggest upset in tournament history.

Unreal

1. UMBC 74, Virginia 54 – 2018 First Round, South Region

March 16, 2018 (Charlotte, N.C.)

Prior to 2018, no 16-seed had ever beaten a No. 1 seed in 135 tries. This game deserves the top spot for that reason alone, but if you need more arguments, here are a few:

1. Earlier in the 2017-18 season, UMBC lost 83-39... to Albany.
2. Virginia had lost only two games by a total of eight points.
3. UMBC was a 20.5-point underdog, but instead won by 20 points.

I know about that one but imo this one had a way bigger talent disparity and was more shocking. Virginia was also missing their best player IIRC.

Crazy day for the tournament.

The talent disparity between Kentucky and a tiny school from Jersey City that most people never heard of it is RIDICULOUS.
Virginia is/was known for consistent defense and opportunistic offensive play. They were a great team that year… UMBC was unknown also.
Hard to say what is the bigger upset but anytime a high seeded blue blood goes down in the first round…Madness.

That loss became the foundation for a national title run, and for a handful of relatively low ranked recruits to make it into the NBA.
We'll see what Calipari does with it with his team of highly rated players. I think we already know.

Go Delaware! With Calipari out, next target for coaches that have turned their college programs into mercenary semi pro teams is The Ferret.

Your confusing reputation with reality.

This 10th ranked Kentucky team had 8 losses, was 2-6 vs top 25 teams, and was the #3 seed in the SEC tournament where they lost to 9th ranked Tennessee who shamefully get a lower seed in the NCAA tournament (3rd) than Kentucky despite having a better record than Kentucky (7 losses), better head to head record vs Kentucky (2-1) and winning the SEC tournament.

13 Vermont went punch for punch vs 4 Arkansas. So, did 13 Akron vs 4 UCLA.

Kansas has a cream puff bracket. Texas Southern never had a prayer. Creighton next.
