Here lays the problem with "player coaches". They only have the locker room when things are going good. Everybody loves them and will run through walls for them. But as soon as things get bad, the players turn on them on a dime. They see how goofy and unserious the coach truly is.

You don't have to be Belichick to navigate through the bad times, but you cannot be the rah-rah cheerleader type like McDaniel is too. Pete Carroll found that out in New England. I think he was more hard nose in Seattle although he still had the rah-rah stuff too.

Do you think Tua is good enough to contend? If you don't, I don't know how you blame McDaniel

McDaniel has been the HC for 3 years and has never won a playoff game. He was 8 - 9 this year, and if you remove the Pats and JETE games, he was 4 - 9. I think he is a great offensive mind, but I am not sure the "buddy HC" approach works. If McDaniel misses the playoffs, or is one and done, do the Dolphins give him a 5th year? I doubt it.

Tua is OK. If you were rebuildinng the Raiders, would you trade for Tua?

Yes and no.

When the Bengals beat KC in the AFCC, the final Mahomes INT was to Hill. Mahomes never should have thrown to Hill, but Hill always wants to be the star of the show. He was a cancer there too. Their are rumors of him hitting on teammates wives and girlfriends.
I am sure he was an ******* there too because a tiger can't change its stripes but at least it was kept in house and he wasn't quitting mid-game.

tua is above mid-tier IF he can get rid of the ball quick, if his reads are quick (and easy) and the timing isn't disrupted

tua can be attacked like the old mike martz rams were attacked.......bully his receivers, disrupt the time, force tua to go deep into his reads, or force him off script.......

what makes that tougher than defending the old rams, is tua's release is silly quick, and can hit tight windows IF they are anticipated windows, and mcdaniel uses a ton of motion and misdirection to make jamming his receivers tough......

tua is a QB that truly needs the right system, and the right personnel with him to make it work.........

thing is, mcdaniel HAD that in miami.......and still couldn't win, and seems to have lost that team.....maybe with his second go round? but the window with the current miami roster seems to be closing.....we'll see if they have the patience to rebuild it, or if his 2nd go round will be somewhere else

If the Pats had won in week 5, there’s no way McDaniel is still coaching for the Dolphins right now. Maybe he doesn’t get fired right there at 1-4, but surely by 1-7. Instead, his win over the Pats softened the three losses before and the three losses after.

Colorado guy. Weekly articles it seemed about his background, upbringing and story here in the local and sometimes national press.

Yes he is very good at calling an offense,
I've watched 90% of the Dolphins games since he's been coach and I don't think this is true. He's very good at "designing" an offense. His in-game calls are lacking and his ability to adjust when defenses take away his gameplan is non-existent.

The percentage of snaps for 3rd and short that were Alec Ingold up the middle was silly. He's easily baited into outside runs because they're "working" getting 3-6 yards a pop, but these often eventually bog the drive down when they get caught in the backfield... and then he throws a backwards pass to a WR immediately afterwards.

He seems to need someone to remind that he's not playing madden out there.
