Taylor Said He 'Could Have Been Done' (Updated) - Redskins Insider

Doctors told Jason Taylor that he "would be done forever" if he hadn't undergone Monday's emergency calf surgery.

Taylor was at risk of amputation had he waited longer due to nerve damage and "tissue necropsy." The surgery has him out indefinitely with no timetable for return. "Nobody knows when the body is going to respond," he said.

Necrosis???? Necropsy is a post-mortem-examination (autopsy), usually on an animal......

WOW, that is quite a story, would have really put the kibosh on his dancing career.

Glad to hear he should be OK.

This should highlight to all how dangerous a sport this is and it should change some of the thinking of the people who think they are way overpaid. Now don't get me wrong the players are overpaid but the sport draws that kind of revenue and the players are the ones who deserve it most because they risk their lives or in this case their limbs....life and limb.

Damn there have been some devastating injuries in the NFL this year.
Get well Jason.

I'll say. It's sobering to hear about a kick in the shin turning potentially life-threatening! Then you have Al Harris with a ruptured spleen...scary stuff. Best wishes for a full recovery.

That's the truth. Poor JT-he's one I'd always hoped would somehow land here. Best wishes to him

Get well Jason and I am sure you realize its time to retire - Forget about a championship in Washington this year anyway

Dan Marino played all those HOF years in Miami without getting a ring so don't feel bad,you aren't the only long time Dolphin/Now Redskin to never see a ring and you won't be the last

Yeah, the writer must have got them confused.

FWIW, the specific name for what happened is compartment syndrome. Really nasty condition which, IIRC, can do in a limb in days or even hours.

They mean avascular necrosis, which is death of cells following lack of blood flow to an area.

That's what caused Bo Jackson's career to be ended- death of cells in the hip area leading to total hip replacement.

Oddly enough, though, Lord Favre apparently suffers from that same condition--and has for a long time now.

And I thought it was only a flesh wound!

Get well soon, JT. It's only football, and you've already proven that you're one of the greats. Now is time to take a step back and get back in shape for *life*, not football.
