OT: Dumbest play in football history

Sorry, but that's not the rule. A touchback is defined by NCAA rules as occuring when a ball is "dead" in the endzone; the rule book makes no mention of "taking a knee."

One way, and the usual way, of creating a dead ball in the endzone is to "take a knee." But, a ball is also dead if it is handed to an official, since anytime the ball touches an official, whether by accident or intention, it is automatically "dead."

Officials also, probably incorrectly, blow balls dead once they see that the receiver isn't making any attempt to advance the ball.

ignorance corrected, thanks

is the NFL rule the same? I don't watch college ball

Thx.

Not sure re nfl. If the definition of a "touchback" is the same (i.e., a deadball in the endzone), then it would logically have to be, unless the nfl rulebook is more specific.

I'll let someone else do that research.

I'm really pulling for another Cat-Griz showdown in a couple weeks!

I had to give up front row seats because of work.

The final score was most good though

most good

dumbest play in football was harrisons hit last night on mccoy..what a complete moron

I had really bad asthma through middle school and never played any sports till HS. In my 1st basketball game ever, intramural, I got the ball took a shot and threw up an air ball...at the wrong basket.

We lost 88-10. I'll never forget it.

Oh, that poor kid.

My vote goes to Jason Garrett for not calling a timeout after getting into field goal territory, then using a timeout to ice his own kicker.

Is Garrett related to Grady Little?

I saw that today and couldn't stop laughing. As for the Kick returner, I really feel for him. It's one of those mental errors which happen all the time in big games, but which don't normally have that level of consequence. I'm afraid I have done something equally dumb, albeit harmlessly.

I do stats for my local team. We punted and the ball rolled on, waiting to be downed. I shouted "it's live!!" and one of their players dived on it.In my (slight) defence, it was a hot day and I was over-excited. I apologised to all concerned, very sheepishly. Our players rightly mocked me for that one. :bricks:
