It's because bets in Massachusetts, and largely across the country, need to be in-game bets. Gaming companies are offering alternatives, such as bets based on Taylor Swift songs or albums that have in-game comparisons.

Generally speaking, the laws in America is you can only bet on actual game outcomes. This includes the score, individual player stats, individual player TD's, etc.

Off shore books love to offer the crazy stuff like how many times CBS shows Taylor Swift, how long the National Anthem is, the color of the Gatorade bath, etc.

I was listening to the radio a couple days ago; Brent Musberger was on the Dan Patrick Show. Musburger is now involved with a gambling site, and that company apparently works with Draft Kings.

Anyways, Musburger stated that once the NFL saw the Supreme Court strike down a federal law on gambling, the NFL decided to get ahead of it so they could control it to some extent. The NFL partnered with three gambling sites, with certain caveats. After researching what gambling was like in Europe, they wanted to insure the appearance of one of their favorite themes: integrity. The NFL didn't want to allow betting on things like how many penalties there would be in a game, because fans would surely think it was fixed if it was even slightly different from the average number. That is what led them to certain restrictions - such as the in-game bets mentioned above - which the gambling sites were happy to oblige with in exchange for the NFL embracing gambling.

It's not working. Too many outcomes too conveniently tied to gambling.

Yeah, if they cared about integrity they'd do something about their egregiously bad officiating - often so bad that mere incompetence cannot explain it.

Wow. What will they ban next in Mass? Happy Hour?
