Al Davis, after the cameras were off: “(Kiffin) conned me like he conned all you people” | Talking Points

Classic blog post from September, 2008. I forget whether it's been posted here before.

Patriots-related parts include:

  • Blames "the Tuck Game" for changing lots of things, including his relationship w/ Jon Gruden
  • Vaguely accuses the Pats of tampering w/ Randy Moss
  • But also says Pats were pretty much the only team that wanted Moss (specifically saying Green Bay didn't)
  • Stumbles over Belichick's name

He claims Javon can really play.....who was it that wanted us to trade for him?

For a second here, I thought Weird Al had an MTV special that would include acoustic instruments. Phew, that was close.

But Shanahan has an asterisk next to those two Super Bowls, because they were caught cheating.

Huh?! What is he talking about?

Huh?! What is he talking about?
Salary Cap violations during those years, I believe they were eventually fined a third round pick - nothing so bad as those evil Patriots anyway.

Denver was caught using some procedure to circumvent the salary cap (something to do with the use of deferred payments), relating to 1996, 1998 and 2001. They were fined a little less than $1M and forfeited a 3rd round pick on two separate occasions (2002 draft and 2005 draft).

Al Davis was one of the big critics of Denvers use of salary cap rules and was somewhat vindicated when they were caught and penalized. Davis has said that Bronco's owner Pat Bowlen should be suspended and that the way Denver abused the cap allowed them to win the Super Bowl in 1997 and 1998.

Edit: Here is an article about it:

Man, there really is no love lost between him and Shanny, huh? What a dork.
