OT: Adam Vinatieri - Which uniform will he wear?

What stands out? A TWENTY FOUR YEAR career in the Not For Long stands out. The big money kicks he made here certainly stand out to us and we love the guy for them but the HoF is about the totality of a career. Ol' Adamatic Vinamoney knew what he was doing making Indy his choice when he left, good for him.
read up, i acknowledged the longevity aspect a long time ago. that is not in doubt. The Indy years though? He could have played the other 14 years of his career in Detroit and it wouldn't have made a difference in how he is viewed.

With a lesser kicker Patriots do not win SB36 or even get there. And Bill does not get the chance to show the league how to stop the Rams offense. And perhaps the Rams dominate for a while longer. Brady likely doesn’t keep his job. And its not a certainty that the Pats win SB38 or 39 either

As for the Colts I would argue they don’t win the Super Bowl in 06 with Vanderjerk. Remember how they beat the Ravens in the division round 15-0? That wasn’t Manning that did that.

AV’s legacy can’t be dismissed.
We're not arguing about his legacy. We're arguing about what uniform HE (not us, not the HoF, but AV) would pick if football HoF inductees had to pick one.

How very big of you to have "acknowledged the longevity aspect" of his career by dismissing it with a simple...

The only thing Indy adds to is the longevity aspect of his career.

Going to Detroit would have made a huge difference. Not only from the weather standpoint of exchanging the games he played in Jax & Houston every year with games in GB & Chicago but with the visibility that comes from winning, playing all those nationally televised games with Paid-a-ton and having that 4th ring. It doesn't diminish what he did here to give props to his 14 years there. It's a zero sum game. Vinatieri gets props for what he did in both locations.

As I mentioned above he would pick the Colts and wouldn’t take much time to think about it.

Yes, I totally agree with you that he'd both make that choice and wouldn't spend more than a minute or two thinking about it.

It looks like AV has reached the end of his career and is being carried by Frank Reich in spite of his recent horrendous kicks. There's no way that Belichick would do that.

When I look at the 20 year kicking history here, we've had Gost, Gould briefly and AV, three of the best ever. Had the Pats known that AV was going to leave they would have kept Gould.

Now for the big question. If AV gets into the HOF which uniform will he wear? He's been in Indy for much longer with more kicks so I think Indiot blue should be his color.
I don't care AV is dead to me.

Generous? No. It's reality.

And yeah, net effect between Detroit and Indy would be negligible. The net difference is one cold weather game a year. The other games are domes. You really think when people talk about AV that they think of the Indy games as anything but an afterthought? Lol.

Definitely.

I didn’t remember him leaving on bad terms though- thought it was just a business decision. Based on the Broncos playoff game and what they’d have to pay him the Pats had reasons to move on. Who knows if they were right or not...

Did AV leave on bad terms? I just remember it being the Patriots did not want to pay him what he thought he was worth and the Colts did plus a chance to extend his career indoors. He was dreadful in the playoff loss to the Broncos in 05 and I’m sure that played a role in the decision to move on from him.

Agreed though. Plus the Patriots won 3 without him.

Think they franchise tagged him the year before if I’m not mistaken. Don’t think he was too happy about that.

Is that bad terms or just the business of the nfl?

Are we talking about the same game in 05 (Jan 06).?Pats lost 27-13 with a Troy Brown fumbled punt, Faulk lost a fumble, Brady threw 2 ints and team was -3 in turnovers but AV was 1-1 on extra points and 2-3 on FGs.. Not dreadful by any means...

He wasn’t the main reason why they lost but he was lousy that night the way I remember seeing it. Kickoffs were short and that was a bad miss on only a 42 yard FG that the team didn’t need. He almost shanked another which thankfully went through.

He should avoid uniforms from Ohio or states that boarder or share a boarder with ohio

AV agreed to sign the tag only on the condition the Pats agreed not to tag him again. Guess we could say that made the the parting of the ways more or less mutual.

Brady wasn’t exactly good either in that Broncos playoff game. Inexplicable throw into triple coverage that got picked and we all know about the other int. 14 point swing might have been the difference in the outcome.

Pats weren’t very good in 05 on defense with injuries being one reason so I doubt it would have been a 3 peat anyway.

AV: *BUST*

...on display in the PFHOF soon as the best kicker in league history.

Regards,
Chris

ya, it's crazy to think we haven't seen him play for the Pats since 2005 (i've got three kids now and didn't have any then)

At one point he had more rings than Brady. Crazy!

Don’t think he’d do it but would be cool to see AV sign a 1 day contract and retire with us.
