OPI

Most of our OPIs came off the same play where Edelman picks the defender and frees up Amendola running deep on the sideline. If we just stop using that dumb play our number will go down.

Or just have Edelman or Gronk stop and stand still before contact is made with the defender. The "rub" will still happen but if the offensive player is merely standing there, it makes it harder to call the OPI.

I was looking at the Offensive Pass Interference calls for this year. I knew the Patriots had been called quite a few times but I had no idea they were the stark outlier in that category.

As of week 6, OPI calls per game:
*Patriots - 1.2
*Washington - .66
*A few with .5 and .4
*Many with .33 and .25 and 0.0
**The zeroes are Denver, SD, Pitt, Baltimore, Indy, Dallas, Sea, SF and a couple of others.
*League average is approx .25 a game.

Obviously the pass heavy Patriots could be expected to have more. Still it is interesting that it was much much higher than everyone else. At this rate a majority teams will not have a season total OPI number that the Patriots have through 5 games.
BS calls aside, BB and staff must be looking at this and coaching it up. A happy medium of a solid push off but not so much it draws a flag can be perfected.

The fact that Denver hasn't been called for OPI is a joke.. They are the KINGS if the illegal pick..

This. They don't need to go actively block the guy before the ball's in the air.

I appreciate the effort, but it's a penalty.
