Official Stevan Ridley thread.

He just doesn't like throwing screens unless it's the very last option. He's had problems lately with always looking for the homerun throw. He didn't use to do that but for some reason it's been more glaring lately although he did a little better yesterday. He's ignored basically everyone that's not at least 10 yards downfield.

That's how I'm seeing it as well. I think looking at more screens would help with protection and slow down the opposing rush. BOB obviously feels differently.

Sorry but this makes no sense. He has been inconsistent. No one can argue that fact, unless, like the original poster, you haven't watched the games.

Now that being said, that doesn't mean he sucks, it means we don't know yet. Giving him some extra carries isn't a bad thing, but it certainly doesn't insure he will do great things, once again, because he has so far, been inconsistent.

All teams play run defense differently. He doesn't get enough carries to get into the rhythm of the game IMO.

Under the radar ... Stevan Ridley

I'd suggest going through and having a look at the same topic a few moons ago. Everything that was discussed there applies here... again.

Oh, I knew there was such a thread, but I just could not for the life of me find it after searching for Ridley. I must confess that I only went through only four pages of the search and grew impatient.

Ok, can someone merge this with the old thread and probable change the thread title to something that between the two titles?

If everyone KNOWS it's a run with a RB behind Brady when he's under center....Why doesn't our OC change the alignment...duh

Ridley is fast to the hole, but when all BOB does is give away his running plays with the alignment, it tends to limit your success because there are usually 8 in the box...and unless your blocking is outstanding...there won't be many holes...

Ridley is fast enough and has the vision to bounce off and take it outside for gains where BJGE would usually be stuffed and on the ground.....

Only 11 carries and look at the YPC for Ridley Sunday.....he'll only get better....

Can't wait to see him next season with a full camp under his belt.......:rocker:

He should be getting more carries than BJGE. You guys HAVE noticed that BJGE hasn't been very good this year, right? 3.7 yards per carry.

Plus Ridley brings an attitude with his runs.

By not very good you mean has performed sporadically behind a patchwork offensive line with run blocking issues whilst suffering from turf toe correct?

The same issues have plagued the entire RB corp at one stage or another.

If BB has a flaw as a coach, it's that he sometimes doesn't let young kids play through their mistakes. I think he's really mismanaged the running game this year. He should have committed earlier to one pair of backs, either BJGE and Woodhead or Ridley and Woodhead. Instead, he's splitting carries between five or six guys, and none of them is getting into rhythm.

I definitely think Ridley is the guy going forward. He really looks explosive as a runner and he doesn't seem that bad in pass protection. He certainly can't be worse than Woodhead. One thing I will say, though, is that I thought Ridley would be more of a banger than he is -- he's faster than advertised, but I thought he'd be more of a Stephen Davis type. But he can definitely get the edge and he does really well when he gets a hole inside. He made a ten yard gain yesterday on an inside play where there was nothing there; I just don't think BJGE makes that play.

I hope they give him more run in the next two games.

How come brady never throws screens to ridley?

Paging Bob O'brien and Bill Belichick.....Paging Bob Obrien and Bill Belichick!!!!!

Green ellis hasnt looked the same since the first game against the Jets...

I like Ridley getting more snaps, he seems to have better cutting ability/more speed. I thought he/woodhead made a nice duo yesterday.

If you root for a sucky team it is easy to get the rookies touches to see if they sink or swim. If you consistently have one of the top teams in the league it becomes much more difficult to let young players sink or swim. If they sink you have a much more difficult time winning the game.

If at the line, then I will not be so open in defending him, but how about at the back field? At times multiple defends descend on him.
During the game yesterday, they said the Broncos told the commentators that Brady under center with a back directly behind him was a sure run and sure enough, that was the case bar two plays the whole game. If you are that predictable on the limited times you run, what success do you expect to have if your OL is not that dominant in run blocking?

Yeah of course the ones inthe backfield aren't on him.
I also noticed that when we don't get more than 5 yards on a 1st down run, 2nd down is almost 100% a pass. Other than blowouts I guess, but we rarely see 2 runs in a row. Figure they should do it at least a couple times a game to keep them more honest.
