I don't know why I actually care, but I always look forward to seeing what numbers are assigned to the new players every year. Here are my thoughts:

Free Agents:
Leon Washington - 33
Its already been written that he's "honored" to be wearing Kevin Faulk's number

Adrian Wilson - 24
Was "negotiating" with Arrington for the number.

Kyle Arrington - 25
Gives Wilson his old 24 for a lifetime supply of diapers for his new baby

Danny Amendola - 16
Wore 16 with the Rams (currently assigned to the immortal Kamar Aiken), can't imagine they would give him Welker's 83, wore 20 at Texas Tech, so that's not an option. With Ebert getting cut, I'll guess he takes 17 to start and then jumps to his old number as soon as Aiken is cut

Donald Jones - 19
Wore 19 with Bills - keeps it with the Pats

Michael Jenkins - 84
Wore 12 with the Falcons and 84 with the Vikes. I'm pretty sure Brady isn't giving up his jersey and unless the Pats are holding out for Deion Branch Part 5, Jenkins gets his Vikes number

Tommy Kelly - 93
Wore 93 with the Raiders. Tells Tracy Robertson, current Pats 93 jersey holder that 93 is his, Robertson says ok....

Edit: Roberston cut today

Will Svitek - 71
Wore 74 for Falcons

LaGarrette Blount - 39
Wore 27 for Bucs (Tavon Williams number), wore 9 in college, he gets Woodhead's old number

Mike Kafka - 8
Brian Hoyer revisited

Armond Armstead - 99
74 last year in the CFL, 94 in college (both taken). He seems like a 99 to me.

Draft Picks:
Jamie Collins - 58
What he is assigned kinda tells me whether the Pats view him as a true LB or rush DE. There are very few traditional LB numbers available. He wore 8 in college

Aaron Dobson - 83
He wore 3 in college. Give him Welker's 83

Josh Boyce - 80 82
Unless TE Brad Herman is cut before the start of the season and he gets his 82 that he wore in college.

Edit: Herman cut today

Logan Ryan - 26
Wore 11 in college.

Duron Harmon - 30
Wore 32 in college.

Michael Buchanon - 97
Wore 99 in college, but he gets Brace's old 97, hopefully he performs better

Steve Beauharnais - 46
Wore 42 in college - gets the "low draft pick, here's a number that will get changed later if you make the team jersey" -

Free Agents.....
Whatever is left and is hanging in their locker when they show up for rookie camp. And they will all be happy and not say a word about it.

Good predictions, can't wait for rookie camp to find out for sure. I like 83 for Dobson, like 82 for Boyce, but like you said, it's not available at the moment. Isn't Tracy White #58 ? Can't give that to Collins, he'll be in the 40's until the roster is down to 53 guys.

Tracy White is still a free agent, I was going on the idea that he wasn't going to be re-signed.
