Back in 2009, the Patriots and Jaguars made a trade in the NFL Draft, that now proves to be very significant.

Jacksonville obtained Patriots' 3rd round selection (overall #73) in exchange for its 2010 2nd round pick and 2009 7th round pick.

The Jaguars used that pick (3rd rnd from '09) to select CB Derek Cox.
Cox played only 47 games in 4 seasons with JAX, and was later released. He is currently a FA, and hasn't played in the NFL since 2013. Interestingly, his last team was the Pats in training camp this year.

The Patriots used the 2009 7th rnd pick to select WR Julian Edelman.

A year later, they traded the Jags' pick (overall #44) they obtained to Oakland (2 spots ahead, overall #42) to select TE Rob Gronkowski.
Also, the player Oakland selected with #44 overall was LB Lamarr Houston, whose last tackle in the NFL (so far) was a sack to Pats backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo, which caused him an torn ACL to end his 2014 season.

At the end, Jacksonville has nothing to show, other than an uneventful career by Cox, and the Pats have their top 2 receivers from that trade.

I understand hindsight is 20/20 when it comes to NFL draft, but I think is ironic how the Jags now have to cover our 2 top receivers from a trade they wish didn't happen.

John Harbaugh must be fuming still that the Patriots leapfrogged him to grab Gronk. It's okay, though, the Ravens ended up with Sergio Kindle.

If you follow the misinformation, they didn't even want Gronk. Right!

Jim irsay was bragging about how smart he was for passing on gronk

This can't be! BB and the Pats are SO bad at drafting!
