Out of curiousity. Is the hard drive in the DVR encrypted?

I dunno about the specifics of DirecTV DVRs specifically, but pretty much all forms of DVR have some form of copy protection, and I'm sure DirecTV must. whether it's encryption or just using proprietary file systems that make the data pretty much unreadable to other devices (or both, or something else entirely) I don't really know.

There is a way to get the playoff games and for that matter any game from last year within minutes of clicking. You just can't be opposed to using a torrent.

There are even niche trackers that are dedicated entirely to distributing football-related content.

My Direct TV main DVR went dead. They sent me a new one. Lost all my DVRed playoff games, SUPER BOWL, all the NFL Films replay stuff....EVERYTHING!!!! I'm so sad.

I had that happen to me before that's the worst! Now it takes forever to get all the films back, but that really stinks you lost all the playoff games.
