The Patriots roster is so shot it made no sense to bring in a high priced FA with absolutely no supporting cast.

Look at each position and tell me where they are truly set and strong. It's time to blow it up and reshape the roster as they actually have been doing since last season.

Seriously, if the Jets can't win the AFC East they are really really bad. As it stands they do have a far superior roster.

O, it's just fantastic!

Really? They managed to ride their "far superior roster" to a worse record than the Patriots last season?

That's...erm...impressive reasoning.

its a great thing from the pats business perspective........why throw all that money up there if you're stadium is already full and your revenue for the year is already fixed? along with that consider the decent chance of a lockout, then why spend bonus money on players now when you will be paying for nothing for the 2011 season?

starting to look like the pats will simply plug holes on the cheap for 2010 and hold off major decisions for when the CBA dust settles.......

So let me make sure I understand the logic here: When the Patriots have Bruschi, Vrabel, Seau, Harrison etc... they are old and slow and need to get younger. But when they have young guys we here "the roster is shot", they don't have any proven guys....

Does that some it up?

I expect the Patriots to, once again, be better than the Jets in 2010.

once you are done looking at who the pats have on defense, please give me your basis for your expectation........because I'm not seeing it at this juncture......

the jets will be heading into OTA's with a full roster, while the pats really don't know what their defensive front 7 looks like......

Yes it's a great thing, a team with no pass rush last year will improve by simply resigning their own players. How could that possibly fail???

Because they were better than them this season with virtually the same roster.

Depending on what happens with Bodden and during the draft, of course.

The Jets are also limited in FA, which works to our advantage.

It's time to win now ! Brady has a 3-year window and we have to make sure we act with urgency ! NOW

There are 0 games played between March and September.

The Patriots FO is proven the only year aside from 2002 they missed the playoffs was after an injury to the HOF QB and some dumb luck to keep an 11-5 team out of the playoffs.

I know it gives you great joy to whine, but you have no basis for whining. If any games were played between March and September you may have a point. But the exact roster in March is relatively meaningless. There is a lot of talent and some holes, just like every other off season.

As expected. Pats can spend the Peppers' dollars on two or three other FAs, who can help fill holes.

I'd prefer to keep all our draft picks, but I'd like to see something done for Olsen.

The defense isn't completely set but it's not in shambles either. You say to 'blow it up' it was already blown up the last couple years as it's had to replace Vrabel, Asante, Rodney, Bruschi, Hobbs, Seymour, etc. And considering a completely rebuilt defense finished 4th overall in PA that's far from being a defense in shambles. As for people who downplay that by saying it was padded against poor teams and 'exposed' by Manning/Brees why don't we take a look at how some of the elite defenses fared in their big playoff moments:

Jets - Owned by Manning. 30+ points
Cowboys - Owned by Favre. 30+ points
Vikings - Owned by Brees. 30+ points
Packers - 52 points

In today's NFL it's hard to find defenses that aren't flawed and can be counted on to shut teams down week in week out. Our defense needs another complete DE and a couple LB's(and we still don't know what we have in McKenzie/Crable yet), we're not as far away from being in position to contend as many think.

They won't throw to him, so why bother.

Dumbest thing I've ever read

Jets made the AFC Championship

We got blown out at home in the first game

Jets are the better team with no room for debate

Three year window? Elway won championships until he was 38. Favre had one of his best years this year pushing 40. Rich Gannon didn't even get good until he was in his mid 30s and won the league MVP in his late 30s. Brady's window is potentially 8-9 years.

I love how the Pats are already done this year less than 24 hours into free agency. Seriously, I am glad so I can have my Sundays this fall. Think about it. The Pats could have the first and second pick in the 2011 draft. I am stoked.
