I've never been extremely excited about this offense since the Brady to Moss days!! Michael Floyd is playing a big part in that! But all in all, from top to bottom our receiving core is possibly the best in the playoffs. And I haven't even mentioned our RBs or TEs.

I just can't wait to see how well they perform. High ceiling, even without Gronk. Floyd will hopefully get worked in more, who could really assist Mitchell in growing, especially in the playoffs.

Gronk is a freak and we all wish we had him.

But the addition of Hogan is huge and Mitchell, Floyd can be solid outside WRs.

The key is the O-Line looking good, Blount having a great season, Lewis is rounding back into form and poses major matchup problems (the fact that he is a good rusher is huge) and White had a breakout season. We didn't have this last year.

Going into the playoffs, this offense will be very difficult to figure out. With Dion Lewis & Michael Floyd coming along

We only have One Good TE Bennett....Matt Lengel is a JAG that don't need to be active on Game days with the WR's we now have.

They like to run the 22 grouping. Hes the backup TE. Hes also playing STs. Lengel will be active on gamedays.

I would love to see the Five Wide Receiver Formation empty backfield with Edelman - Dola and Mitchell in the slot would the Defense Blitz?? Brady would be able to play catch with Floyd and Hogan on the outsides.

Floyd only has 4 receptions for us (and one spectacular block, true). People here are getting too pumped about him, let's calm down a bit

Jay if that's a sign of things to come I'll take it Floyd passes the eye-ball test and more. The guy doesn't even look like a WR but he runs like one...no wonder Seattle CB's hate covering him.

Best WR corps we have had since 07' Now I wonder if the Pats will want to try to put 5 true WRs on the field at any point.

I think vs Dallas or the Giants that would be the way to go some times. Force them to put 6-7 DBs on the field and dare them to cover them all. Also the good news is if the Pats do that they will attack all parts of the field.

Hogan deep, Mitchell/Floyd deep/intermediate, Edelman/Amendola intermediate/slot/behind the line.

I don't think any team has enough quality DBs to stop that. The question is how many plays do we have designed for it and can your OL hold without help. I think the OL can but i doubt we have any plays set up for a true 5 WR look unless they were added recently.

I dont think this is as good as you think. The problem with 5 WR set is that there is no "disguise" play. When we have a 2/2/1 personnel, the defense needs to be ready for anything, runs, passes, play actions.

On a empty backfield 5 wr set, is always going to be a pass. Plus, on those kind of sets, we have to rely very heavily on individual skills of our receivers and, besides Edelman, i would say we dont have an excellent receiver (yet, at least)

There's a reason BB has been searching for a second TE to match up with Gronk for year and not going after WRs in FA.

100% agree. Weapons-wise, this team is, uh... well...

One of McDaniels or the Patriots Team strengths is adaptability that is adapting to current personnel the only Team I see stopping that right now is Denver and they are home for the Playoffs. It would surprise me if it wasn't put in: again playing to our strengths is what we do best and WR is now a Strength!

We haven't done 5 wides in a while, wouldn't be surprised at all if all of a sudden we see it in playoffs, Brady is the master of it and going through progressions, and no film on it for the year

no disguise, but the worse WR out there would be 3rd on a depth chart, that means a team would have to have its 4th and 5th CB be able to match a 3rd WR...and they wont

edelman and dola working the middle
floyd the side
hogan deep
malcom anywhere

Did this guy do more than I'm aware of? Dude played like one game and has like 4 catches and a nice block and people are hyping him up to be this freak of nature. The hype is so unreal with this guy right now.

Lafell in 2014 > Hogan 2016

Based on what? Stats? They are being used differently in this offense.

In 2014 they had 6 guys they threw the ball to. JE11, Gronk, LaFell , Vereen, DA and Wright. In the playoffs it went down to 5.

In 2016 they have 7 JE11, Hogan, Mitchell, Bennett, White, Lewis and now Floyd. I'm not sure that changes in the playoffs.

In 2016 they threw the ball ~50 times less than 2014.

LeFell had a really good year but I don't think he is appreciably better than Hogan.

The point is that he's picking up the offense very fast at a short span of time and he's already making key plays...no hype, just facts from his potential. Besides, this is where McDaniels get really creative with the offense, so again, I'm just excited about the potential of this offense

Lafell was better overall in 2014 cause his game lends itself to more flexibility but for a deep threat Hogan has been way better this year and he is not bad underneath either he is just not asked to do it.

They were good fits for both teams. In 2014 the Pats needed an all around outside WR. In 2016 the Pats needed more of a depth threat specialist.

Needless to say Lafell did not hold up his form after 2014.
