i see where the Chiefs won't pick up the option year on Foles. He comes in at $6+ mil, which is stupid money. However, knowing you have Foles as your back up make it easier to trade Jimmy G.? Or, is the league so QB starved that Foles could b. #1 for another team?

I highly doubt the Pats spend any serious money on a backup.
Maybe we can get Cassell back on a cheap deal.

Are you stupid or something?

Our backups name is Jacoby Brisset, after that some guy in the 4th round.

Well he did have a season with 27 TD's and 2 interceptions so he would only be a slight downgrade to Tom Brady's 28 TD and 2 interceptions But seriously I think you brought up the correct point that in the QB starved NFL right now some team would probably be able to offer a much better contract than what he's worth to us.

Have the patriots paid for a free agent backup QB in the Brady era? They didn't even really bring in anyone after Brady got hurt in 08

From gut feeling and eye test JG is gonna be top 10 QB in the league for years to come. I would just keep Jacoby as my 2nd QB this season after we trade Jimmy for a good haul.

I hope SF or Chicago trades us there 1st rounder or swaps 1st rounders with and gives us a 3rd rounder. I don't want to see JG go to Cleveland.. I would like him to succeed in the NFC.

I think the concern is how limited your offense would be by bringing in an outsider, just as it was when they went with Cassel in 2008.

Even this season, we were basically running a high school/early college type of system with Brissett. Others may argue, but I think that was more than obvious.

To answer your question though, Flutie was still here about 10-11 yrs ago, right? I'm pretty sure he was a lower priced veteran backup signing at one point. They haven't really gone out and made any splashes though, that's for sure.

Vinny Testaverde?

I forgot about Flutie, but with him it seems like its more of a desire to bring in Doug Flutie than them thinking they needed a backup QB

While I think your prediction is level-headed and probably a lot closer to the truth than predictions offered by many, swapping firsts and throwing in a third isn't good enough for me.

Even setting money aside, I don't see Foles going someplace where he knows he couldn't at least compete for the starting job.

I only remember Testaverde because of a very awkward press conference where journos were trying to read WAY too much into the signing and Belichick had to keep reeling them back in. I watched the clip on NESN back in the day and I will never, ever hear "He's a backup, emergency quarterback" said so many times within the same minute again in my life.

But Kc did just cut him loose because they aren't willing to pay him like a high end backup, doesn't mean someone else won't but I wonder if teams still view him as someone who can compete for the staring job.
