League sources have confirmed to us here at The National Football Post that the NFL League Office has sent Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis a letter informing him that he was in violation of NFL league rules when he falsely accused the New England Patriots of tampering with then Raider wide receiver Randy Moss. This violation of NFL team policy and guidelines will certainly come with a hefty fine.

This is a good thing. Too bad the human memory is very selective. Once someone says something definitive like, "The Pats tampered to get Randy Moss." The public ear will ALWAYS remember that, and very few will hear or remember the fine for FALSE INFORMATION.

I guarantee you I'm going to have to explain it to someone who calls them the cheatriots again and uses this as a new example of, "an organizational culture of cheating."

Unfortunately, it's not like he cares. He achieved his goal of creating the smear headlines, which got front page mediot coverage, how much mainstream publicity is this likely to get? Not much.

At first I thought that this is just homer talk and a little excessive. But if the Patriots had been found guilty of this, then they would have most likely had to send a pick to the Raiders, right? It actually makes sense to me that a draft pick would be adequate compensation for a false accusation. Davis basically just made an effort to swipe a pick... a monetary fine just isn't enough in my eyes.

Couldn't agree more A fine is nothing and doesn't do much to deter this type of thing from happening again. It's known that ever since Spygate the Patriots are uber-sensitive and vulnerable to attacks such as these,so slapping a fine (while better than nothing) does little to stop anyone from hurling more false accusations against them in the future. I hope Kraft doesn't settle.

Was going to say the same thing....they really cannot afford any draft picks....or a new coach...or Al Davis....maybe they should just be disbarred as a team....

Yep, this is true. Much like how I have to explain to people how the jets taped signals as well. It just never ends witht he selective hearing.

If Goodell is such an ass kicker and wants to stop teams from calling out each on issues like this he needs to pounce on Davis. Believe me if the Patriots had something like this the New York Daily News would be banging the drum for Patriots to give up a pick or picks and for Belichick to be suspended for a game.

I can see the point of not taking picks away from Oakland, but how about the same approach as the penalty for the 9ers attempted tampering with Lance Briggs: Have the Patriots and Raiders swap spots in the draft. Drafting at Oakland's spot in the 4th round while they select at New England's spot would be a nice little bonus for the Patriots.
