NFL's ball-handling procedures undermine their position.

The very fact that they've instituted these new procedures means the previous situation was haphazard by comparison. All the information we've been exposed to over the last 7 months just goes to back this up. None of this was a big deal until it was a big deal.

Based on the synopsis provided by La Canfora, these seem extremely rudimentary. From what I've read the NFLPA seems to be focusing a lot on whether or not the NFL can punish a player for rules that apply to a club.

But still - these newly announced procedures indicate that the previous situation was not sufficient and I think can only bolster the NFLPA's position.

   For those random games back-up footballs will be used by each team in second half and the game balls will have been removed from play

   At some random games, at halftime, all balls will be measured and recorded by designated members of officiating and security crews

   The same gauge must be used for pregame, halftime and postgame testing and back-up gauge provided as well.
