It’s been reported that Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson, Clemson defensive end Gaines Adams and Louisville defensive tackle Amobi Okoye admitted to having used marijuana during interviews at the NFL scouting combine in February.

"We definitely have concerns about the fact that teams are asking players about their past use of banned substances," NFLPA spokesman Carl Francis said Friday. "Then, to have that confidential information shared publicly is disturbing. The player is expected to give an honest answer and be candid, then it's used against him? That's the problem we have with what's happened here."

Used against them? How has it been used against them? None of them will be in the NFL drug program and none of them will have their draft stock impacted by this. Johnson will go no latter then 4th overall. Gaines is expected to go 2nd to the Lions but even if he doesn’t he will not last past 6th (Redskins). Okoye was slated to be gone by 15th – at the latest.

So, if the draft comes and goes and all three are drafted where they were suppose to be drafted, how were they hurt?

I hate when the union complains to complain.

For Christ sakes,

Luis Castillo was taken in the first round and he took steroids and was caught red handed. Yet someone still took him (san diego).

If your going to tell me some of these guys didnt try it i'd be more skeptical of that than them saying yea i smoked, i tried it.

At least you can be honest about it.

Still though, if you were being interviewed for a job, were asked a personal question, and decided to actually be honest about it, you too would be pretty upset if someone leaked it to the media. I understand these things (leaks) happen, but the union is right, that's not the way it's supposed to work.

shatch, you're wrong. This was a huge breach of trust. You can bet no players are going to be truthful in future draft interviews.

If someone said, 'don't worry this is confidential', and I knew that this info was leaked to the media in the past, you can bet your ass I would keep certain things to myself instead of being candid.

If when the NFL asks the question they say it will be confidential, then it should be confidential. But I have no problem with them asking the question.

Please, there are about 1,600 players in the NFL and people actually believe that the only ones who have ever smoked pot are the very few who are caught. They were asked a question and they answered it. One guy said he smoked weed when he was 16. I think it is more of a story THAT THEY WERE HONEST then that they did it. I would rather have a guy on the team that takes responsibility for his actions than ones who lie about them. Also as was mentioned above, Castillo got caught with steroid in his system, said he did it to rehab, would never do it again and was still taken in the top of the draft. You think he would have mentioned that, if asked but not tested? NOPE

It has nothing to do with the 1600 players in the league and who told the truth or not. The information provided in those interviews is supposed to be confidential and someone from a NFL team leaked it to the press. That is a huge violation of these players trust and could cost them a lot of money.

No he wasn't. He was taken after the first pick.

You don't know where a playerl would have been taken. You don't know if a team will shy away. Maybe Johnson would havd been first, maybe he wouldn't. Maybe he will go where he would have, maybe he won't.

You are totally missing the point here. It isn't whether kids use dope or when or how many kids.

It is the breach of trust.

If this had no effect on anything, it would not have been news.

And it is especially relevant in today's NFL climate.
