NFL (league wide) roster cuts – players of interest

Richard Seymour

Big Sey is still cut. He has missed training camp and had time to be with his family. If there is one unemployed football player I want on this team I think he gives us the most upside.

You've got a better chance of seeing Tebow unseat Brady as the permanent starting QB than seeing Richard Seymour return to the NEP.

He was recently asked about the possibility and stated that he'd be willing to play with just about anyone aside from Belichick and the Patriots. One would certainly have to assume that Bill Belichick feels the exact same way.

That isn't even bringing up the amount of money that Seymour wants, as he seriously overrates his value; otherwise he'd likely have gone to Atlanta who was basically the only team that sniffed around him earlier in free agency. Either side cares for each other, and Belichick would never pay Seymour the kind of money that he is looking for. That ship sailed a long time ago.

Why? Develin's not a real FB either.

Huh? According to the official Patiots website he's a "real" FB:

James Develin Interview - 9/3/2012

The answer to your question is because he's been here off and on for a couple training camps, knows the complex system, and is currently been getting increased reps that have come with the first team.

I'm not saying that a FB will definitely make the squad, but if a FB does make the squad it's going to be James Devlin--not a guy they are going to bring in this late that will need to attempt to learn the system from day one.

You very likely are correct.

However I thought much the same about Twig and the patriots sought him out with a generous trade to Seattle.

I think BB is very pragmatic and if he feels Big Sey can help the team, he can move beyound the past.

Guessing Seymour was happy at this point to skip training camp and preseason. Would he be willing to come down on his demands having missed camp and having an opportunity to go for another SB? Could go a ways in helping his legacy. Who knows.

Just feel he is a player that would make a significant improvement to the team as I do not like how thin we are at DT.

Re: Richard Seymour

Seymour isn't coming to NE. The report a while ago was that he wouldn't play unless the money was right, and he's not worth the amount of money he thinks is right. Perfect example of a guy who doesn't realize that he won't always be valued as much as he was in his prime.

Develin was an unathletic DE at Brown; he has neither the instincts nor the skills to succeed
in an NFL offensive backfield.

You may very well be right.

I'm just stating that I think IF a fullback is going to make the roster, it's going to be James Devlin or no one.
