Well, in distribution I think they were, especially after week 15. But, it was because it A) fit their heavy TE/FB personnel, and B) no team was willing to go heavy to match them consistently because you still had Tom Brady. With Cam Newton, the proposed alignment in this thread would not see run favorable formations.

Get a QB who can throw again though? And this is one package that could really throw some teams off (for short bursts) if they're the kind of team that's built to matchup with the Chiefs of the world.

I beg to differ. The Patriots changed partway through the season and started pounding the ball with Sony Michel. The only real outlier during their final run and playoffs was the KC game.

Funny when I read they were pushing to re-sign Thuney, my thoughts were the same. I was like is he going to run a 6 man line. Onwenu is too good to not be on the field.

I guess it's possible they let Andrew's walk. If they are able to re-sign Thuney.

Seems reasonable to think that the best way to keep your defense fresh against the KC's of the world is to control the clock. I like the direction that Belichick is taking right now. Its against the grain with current trends and may just be the next big trend.

This is a ridiculous thread. Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith will rarely line up in three point stances. These guys are receivers who will command coverage that opens up opportunities for Agholor, Meyers, Bourne, Lee, Harry and Edelman (only five will make the team.)

These receivers - TEs and WRs - make New England a much more interesting place for FA QBs to consider.

I would expect them to line up as blockers frequently inside the redzone or on third and short.

Teams had severe issues stopping Cam in those instances last year (51 first downs, 12 tds). Add in Brown and two TEs who can both block and this will be an even bigger headache for DCs.

Also they can just come out in that formation and then spread it all out if the defense goes run heavy.
