What name do or did you prefer? And if you were around back then how did you feel about the name change from Boston Patriots to New England Patriots? I read that supposedly in 1971 they were called the Bay State Patriots or were going to be called that but wasn't received well.

Since Western Mass > Eastern Mass, it's gotta be New England.

I'm far too used to New England Patriots to have it changed but Boston Patriots sounds pretty good so I wouldn't be heartbroken if it was changed back. I agree with everyone in 1971 that the Bay State Patriots sounds awful though.

Since they are located closer to Providence........nah, let's stay with New England

As someone from CT, but now relocated far away, I've always preferred the New England Patriots. I love how that represents our entire area. New England is more than just Boston, even though I love Boston. Not to mention, I think it is a good geography lesson and conversation piece as many people across the country don't know where/what New England is.

Maybe Ray Lewis killed Pat Patriot
"What kind of monster do you think I am?"

"I like to think of memories as the rearview mirror we monitor as we drive into the future."

looks like the same label to me...

"I too prefer the old logo."

-Robert Kraft, 1994

Anything would have been better than the Connecticut Patriots, or Hartford Patriots.

Half the state of CT (especially in Bristol, and Hartford) despise the Pats, and root for NY.
