Moss claims to be better than Rice

Everyone seems to have forgotten in all this that when Rice played the rules allowing DB's more liberties to grab, hold and rough up receivers and not be penalized. It's much easier to put up passing and receiving numbers in todays game as a result. This is why we see guys passing for 4000 yards who have no business doing so and guys catching 100 balls who would not have been able to do so under the previous rules. Rule changes have inflated the stats of today's QB's and receivers. Clear advantage to Rice here. Despite this Randy still has to put up another 10 great years and be a key player in several championships to match Rice's accomplishments. It's safe to say Rice's place as GOAT is not in jeopardy for a long time.

I agree..the rules change is noteworthy, but lets not act like the rule changes happened before Moss entered the league. All Moss' numbers until 2003(basically his best Viking years) where compiled with old rules that allowed DBs more flexibility to be physical. Also, while there is a degree of subjectivity to this, you can easily argue that Moss has seen much more double/triple coverage in his time than Rice did.

That's kinda the point. Look at the 1998 Vikings. Set the alltime points record, went 15-1. Randall Cunningham was the quarterback. A 21-year-old Randy Moss catches 17 TD passes to be the dominant weapon in that offense. You're arguing that the fact that Cunningham and Culpepper suddenly became all-world talents when throwing to Moss is a point against him? No; Moss has made a career out of making mediocre-to-bad QBs have Culpepper-in-2004 type years. Hell, he even made Jeff George and Todd Bouman look pretty damn good. Suddenly give him a HOF-caliber QB, though (what Rice had for almost his entire career), and he breaks Rice's record in the first year.

I understand your point but your doing exactly the opposite of your point your saying Rice was great mostly because of his QBs but giving all the credit for Moss success to him and none to his Qbs. And for the record Moss wasn't even the leading receiver on that 2004 team Nate Burleson was so to give Moss all the credit for Culpepper's success that year is a little bogus.

Moss is great because he is a freakishly talented receiver. He is tall and fast. But basically, he is like a basketball player playing wideout. He catches mainly fades and bombs. Has he ever broken a tackle? Don't get me wrong. He is the best ever at that, but there's a lot more that goes into being a receiver.

Rice got the most out of every ounce of his ability. He would break 5 yard passes into 60 yarders. He was a great blocker and played well into his late 30s. In short, Rice was a football player and Moss is a specialist. Both great in their own ways but if you took off the homer glasses, Rice is the best receiver (maybe overall football player) of all time.

I think it was defintely a personal jab at Rice, they have a history.

As much as I love Randy Moss, and I do, I think he´s an amazing player who has truly turned his attitude around this year, I think that it was a stupid thing to say. It wasn´t necessary. It was a loaded question, but he should have done the Patriotic thing and do his talking on Sunday.
