Mike Lynch: Belichick to be fined $500k, Pats to be docked 2 "high picks"

in a weird sort of way, this is pulling us all together, and I am sure it will do the same thing to the team. We are closer, tighter and more defiant than ever....fans and organization.

If people outside this organization think this will divide us they are dead wrong.

We are here and we are going to tear it up all year. I am so pissed and pumped at the same time...it is time to fight.

it is so on....

I guess you must put more reliability into unnamed sources than I do. I am not saying any reporter made this up, but really and truthfully, there is no penalty for using very questionable sources. I would imagine, however, that the commissioner would be very careful with whom he shared information like this with, and therefore I wouldn't put much faith in any source. Once the truth comes out we will know, maybe tomorrow, if the unnamed sources are correct.

Great job.

One other thing we know about this story. It has been a wind blown wild fire, and if this commish has anything going on in his head, (and I think he does), then he would be very deliberate about how he managed this situation.

schefter saying possibilities include first and 3rd round pick with suspension and fine.

I said this before and I'll say it again, Goodell thinks he's Judge Dredd!

The same Schefter that said Washington was on the trade block or Adalius Thomas to San Francisco looked like a done deal, I'm a little skeptical of what he reports.

Regardless of any fine, suspension or lost draft picks, the biggest losers in this whole mess are the Patriots players and their fans. We're the ones who have to go through all this talk that we cheated our way to three Super Bowls. It'll eventually die down, but it should be a tough year unless we continue to win and shove a fourth ring down anyone's throats.

If anyone tells me that my team has three Super Bowls, I'm just going to tell them I'd rather have a tainted one, than none at all.

If the Pats lost a 1st AND a 3rd AND BB gets a 500k fine AND gets suspended multiple games for some guy TAPING SIGNS FOR ONE QUARTER that is an embarrassment.

Kraft would be in every right to forfeit the rest of the season, take his ball and go home.

Let the league suck on that.

Hey -- let's remember that WCVB also reported yesterday that BB had been "summoned" to NY to meet with the Commissioner. That wasn't true. They maybe the Pats network but they don't always get it right.

Punitive.

Over the top.

Ridiculous.

All of this for our first offense!!!!!

The anti-Pats sports media and Competition Committee have Goodell in their pockets.
Actually, it kinda isn't a first offense. The first (and 2nd and 3rd, etc.) offenses came last year.

Tell them what I do - that they aren't tainted, not at all. If the penalty is overly harsh so be it but unless evidence of actual cheating comes out there's no tainting whatsoever. If they're too stupid to realize it, that's their problem.

Wow, just wow.
This seems a little over the top

Man, it really does sound way overboard to me too. I am speachless.

Proof? Rumors aren't proof and shoudn't be included in consideration of the punishment, which everyone seems to disregard.

true but goodell willl be harsh so as to prove that his friendship with kraft doesnt affect his descions and also because he set a precedent by suspending the dallas coach and pacman etc.
He has no choice but to be harsher.

Is it possible the Pats might fight any punishment through the courts? If that's so this could drag on all season.

The interesting difference between sports reporter and news reporters is, and this is actually kind of funny, but credibility. News reporters are actually somewhat judged by the "news" they put out. Sports reporters aren't really held up to a very high "journalistic" standard. If they are wrong it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Therefore, I think they have a tendency to throw more shXT against the wall to see what sticks.

The info that SI has put out may very well be accurate, but it also may not be. I just think before you all jump off the bridge you remember that its just rumors right now. Also, remember, its just a silly game played by millionaires, and I'm not real worried if we loose two picks next year, nor am I worried if they fine anyone, its not my money, and I don't think it will hurt the pat's ability to sign free agents or anything.

Well,

If this all comes down and we lose some high draft picks, you can bet that Mangini's gonna have to go into the NFL's version of the witness protection program. I can't imagine the reception he'll get when he shows up to Foxboro in a few weeks.

There will indeed be repurcussions throughout the league, and the payback will be significant. I'm not talking about physical stuff, but having the Ptriots, for example, force the league to investigate all sorts of crap on other teams. Every time a player wears some sort of wrap, you could file a complaint to have the material investigated. Have the team's doctors have to report every single treatment they attend, witness, supervise, etc. There are any number of legal ways the Patriots could cost the league so much money and time that Goodell would would personally shoot Mangini for all this.

Exactly. There has been one official league warning, and now this is their first PENALTY. It's like if you get a warning for speeding, and then next year when you get pulled over again for speeding it's a $25,000 fine and 14-days in jail.

It would be nice if someone were reporting some alternative theory, but everything we've heard from the beginning seems to be consistent, from Mort's report to this. Other than the gaffe about BB being summoned to New York, there's not much that's been off.

I guess once this report hits the major wires, we'll be hearing lots and hopefully some softening. But pretty much things have been fairly consistent since the story broke. Tape got confiscated, Goddell lost his mind when he saw it, major sanctions possible, now major sanctions to be imposed.
