The promo NFLN is running for this stupid show with Deion "The Mouth" Sanders and upcoming rookies shows the epitome of old morons mentoring young morons. Sanders is "coaching" Crabtree, who says like an idiot, "I didn't know what I was doing until I got behind the podium." Then, he's shown at a press conference saying, "I'd like to forgo my final two years of college for the draft." This is met with APPLAUSE, and a handshake from The Mouth.

Great job, Crabtree. Not that you likely attended classes anyway, but you sure did yourself proud by cutting your "education" short and taking tutorials from The Mouth like this is some superb accomplishment. The dumbing down of America continues ...

Deion Sanders is one of the best all around cornerbacks in NFL history. While he might be a moron, as you say, he is certainly talented.

Yes, he was a good player WHEN he played (except for being afraid to tackle anyone). But that's got nothing to do with glorifying a college player's choice to enter the NFL draft after his sophomore season. What's your point?

hmm, potentially being a top 10 selection in this years draft (and reaping the monetary benefits) or possibly staying in college and have his draft stock fall. How'd that work out for Leinart (a few years ago)or Laurinaitis and Maualuga who last year were considered Top 10 but this year most mocks have them nowhere near the top 10.

If I were Crabtree I'd leave early too realizing my stock might never be as high, meanwhile earning the money that could send me back to school after my career is over and still being set for life if I were smart about it

He can always go back to college and finish his degree. He may not always be able to make a living playing football. While he's risking injury every day playing one of the most violent sports on earth it's a smart decision to cash in while he still can.

I hate this line of thinking. Money, money, money. Declaring for the draft with two remaining years of college eligibility is supposed to be a case of what's loosely defined as "hardship," not "cash-in" mentality. Crabtree wouldn't be where he is now if not for his college football program, which is all too conveniently being kicked to the curb. I know it happens, but what bothers me is how Sanders and the NFLN promo glorify this decision as something great. Many other star NFL players stayed with their college teams for the full tenure when they could have declared early. THAT shows both personal integrity and respect for the programs that made them.

Are you trust fund offspring? It's about money because it's tough to live without it.

Football is a violent sport with a short shelf life. Why would anyone waste years in college when you could make millions. So what if they don't get a degree? Half of college students never finish.

Besides, isn't the purpose of college to develop skills to get a job to make money?

Greed= someone else getting money.

Sorry to be the one to break the news.... but you may be living on the wrong planet GB.

If you have a chance to make the kind of cash this kid is about to make.... the decision really isnt that hard. School will always be there.

Cry me a river. College programs exploit their athletes and make tons of money off of them. They also give them crappy educations such that they didn't really learn anything while they were there.

Do you feel the same way about NBA and MLB players who didn't graduate from college?

What a fabulous imagination you must have. If I'm a trust fund child you must be the king of Mongolia. (FYI, I created self-employment from scratch 14 years ago.) Sorry to see the principle I'm defending elude your grasp of comprehension.

It's not simply about "getting a degree." Although that would be laudatory, I doubt it's on Crabtree's radar screen. It's about fulfilling a commitment to the institution/coach/team that essentially made you what you are. MANY NFL stars, including players like Peyton Manning, "risked it all" to finish their college careers. But the fact some players leave college early isn't as much what's bugging me as NFLN and Sanders glorifying it as a great thing to be congratulated on.

Football is the most important thing in this kid's life, and rightfully so. He has once-in-a-lifetime talent as a WR. I believe BB is even on record questioning a former star draft prospect's commitment to academics over football in that player's last year in college.

Crabtree already practically had two Belitnikoffs in the bag and was still on a skyrocketing ascent last year when he got hurt in the UT game. After that, you could see his frustration at having a bad ankle and not being able to get any separation from DBs. Why the holy hell would he want to risk getting a potentially career-threatening injury while being asked to carry a team against Big 12 defenses this year?

I do agree that too many kids come out early, but in Crabtree's case it was no-brainer (no pun intended).

That's understandable. I'm merely pointing out how sleazy it appears for NFLN/Sanders to be glorifying it.

What's GB?

Your principle is not eluding my grasp. I completely disagree with it.

Sorry, but money is important, especially with youth dependent professional activities.

Also, I completely disagree with the concept of universities/ higher education deserving some sort of elevated loyalty.

You may. I both admire your idealism but I also consider it misguided.

What's the real point of this thread? College kids leave early all the time. Why are you choosing to focus on Crabtree? There are other underclassmen coming out too.
