So as an ESPN Insider I was able to view what they are touting as Mel Kiper's latest 4 round "mock". It was more broken down team by team not Picks 1 - 120.... anyway here is what was listed for the Pats picks..

First round (22): LB Sergio Kindle
Second round (44, 47, 53): RB Jahvid Best, TE Rob Gronkowski, DL Linval Joseph
Third round: No third-round picks
Fourth round (119): LB Thaddeus Gibson

While I am in the pro-Kindle camp the rest of the picks leave me underwhelmed. If this team leaves the first 2 rounds without a WR I will be very surprised.

I like the Kindle and Best picks. I think if those are our first 2 picks then the next two have to be WR and DE. TE can be picked later in the draft.

All the chemicals that Kiper has been putting on his hair all these years to make it do that thing have obviously eaten through his skull now and are running amok in his neural pathways.

Actually, I wish I had some of that stuff about now.

Anyway, it explains his draft picks for the Pats in this mock.

I would hate to see the Patriots go RB with one of the seconds (unless it is a jitterbug that can double as Welker-like slot guy); they have more pressing needs. Gronk seems like a solid choice. Kindle may be off the Patriots board because of character concerns; may not be a Patriots kind of guy.

I would not like see to the Patriots spend a second on a WR in a draft that is weak in that area. They can take a flier on some high risk/reward WRs in the late rounds. Use the second rounders for the defense.

They wouldn't be my choices but I don't think they're bad. Gronk could be a seriously good TE if they're OK with his back and Joseph could develop into a tough 3-4 DE. I don't have a problem with Best, either, as all out RB are FA after this year although a WR at that spot would be my preference.

i love the Sergio Kindle, pick at #22 Jahvid Best, no thanks the pats don't need to give a 2th round pick on a 3rd down back.

give me arthur jones, over Linval Joseph, and Arrelious Benn, over Rob Gronkowski, and at #119 take Dennis Pitta,

Completely agree. I hope Belichick focuses on the Front 7 and Oline in rounds 1-2. They can get high upside skill position players like Emmanuel Sanders, Marcus Easily, Jimmy Graham, Scott Sicko, Montario Hardesty in rounds 3-7.

I'd rather have someone consistent and capable rather than a high upside/possible bust player (i.e Chad Jackson)

This upcoming draft could be the most important draft to date under BB and Mel Diaper Jr. has us taking a guy with off field concerns, two medical nightmares and overdraftinga DE.

Someone has to ask, is Mel Diaper Jr. relevant anymore?

Not a horrible draft for the Pats. However, I'm not a fan of Thaddeus Gibson for the Pats, and I'd like to see a quality wide receiver prospect taken.

I agree however I wonder if he is the Vollmer of the 2010 draft class. Seems I see his name associated with the Pats a lot.

As I believe BB once said, don't give me a defensive player who can't tackle. Gibson appears to be that kind of player.

"Weaknesses

Needs to add bulk, especially in his lower half, to take on bigger blockers at the next level. Does not use his hands well enough to shed blocks and counter in pass-rushing situations. Takes too many false steps, which limits his great speed. Struggles to break down the ball carrier and consistently make tackles in the open field. "

I share this view also. I'm actually thinking Pouncey at #22 (maybe trade back two or three spots for extra pick swap), defensive tackle, OLB, and scat back like Gilyard in round two. Focus on receivers and a North-South running back in later rounds. Tight ends - YAWN.

I agree. That 2nd round sux nasty ass. Joseph is intriguing, but I think we now need a DE (even a 3-4 DE) who can make plays in the backfield as well as hold the POA, and I just don't feel that a 320-pounder - unless he's the most athletic 320-pounder in league history - can do that often enough for us. I'd rather wait until the 6th-7th rounds to find a run-stuffing DE.

Fair point.

Not quick, but he did run a 5.09 40. I'd take him in the second as long as pass-rushing needs have been met.

I like this draft for us. I really wouldn't be surprised if we don't end up with a WR in the first 2 rounds. There are still plenty of free agents that could supplement what we have already. I'm in the pro-Kindle camp, though I'd prefer Graham. Love the Gronkowski pick I want this guy. I'd prefer another running back over Best though, I want a more hardnosed runner like Gerhardt or Dwyer.

True. He has Mccluster as the 3rd best RB in the draft. That's a joke. The best he'll be is Darren Sproles and will probably be converted to WR.

He also has Gerhart nowhere near his top 5 and says he'll be a 3rd rounder for short yardage situations, will he be suprised.

I find it baffling McShay and Kiper have Dwyer high when Gerhart is faster, bigger, smarter, stronger, and had more production.
