Re: McGowan and Wright get Pay Boosts

Hope you are right with Chung and wrong we do not get a pick for Sanders. Read that the Bears might be a home for him with an Olsen swap. I would not morn this move. I want the Pats to be better this season.

Blame this on DeB! I was thinking about leaving this alone.Yet I get dragged back in.

I'd rather trade you for Fireman Ed.

Glad both of them performed above expectations. Though neither should have been in the position to start, I liked what Wright did far more than Jarvis and hope to continue seeing him on the team for years to come. Same with McGowan, though I hope he can get back to early-2009 form next season. I liked watching him drill people.

Re: McGowan and Wright get Pay Boosts

Sanders may not be the TE killer that McGowen was, but he is probably our best tackler in the secondary.

McGowan didn't get beat deep for the first half of the season. Then got picked apart for 4 weeks.

Sanders came back and the passing game slowed down for the opposition.

Agree. Sanders and Chung will battle it out for the starting safety job. I think McGowan could be a goner, based partly on performance and partly on Tom E Curran saying, more than once, that he was a bad presence on the locker room.

What Curran says doesn't matter. And I believe Reiss debunked that rumor anyway. No one else on the team has the ability to shut down tight ends like McGowan.

That was true, but Sanders started laying some serious wood last year, on top of his generally great instincts and field marshaling. If he moves forward even more, he could be great this year.

I agree. Doesn't mean that McGowan doesn't have a place on the team in certain situations, though.

Certainly. Right now, I'd say we have the best group of safeties in the game. We need an inspiring CB pick-up, but I'm pretty stoked on Butler and Bodden as the top 2.

It is not a rumor, both Tom E Curran and Borges were in the locker room. The story goes that after Levoir's monster hit on a New York Jet DB, knocking him out of the game, that McGowan was livid. McGowan screamed at Levoir not to hit DB's that hard, fearing that the Jets would, in turn, play physical with the Patriot DB's.

Curran says that if Rodney Harrison, Vrabel, Bruschi or McGinest had ever heard Mcgowan yelling at a fellow Patriot for playing or hitting too hard, that they would have been all over McGowan. Of equal concern, Curran claims that Mcgowan had rookie Darius Bultler piling on Levoir as well.

As bad as it sounds, I think that 8 of the 9 Secondary spots (along with Arrington/Lockett) are pretty much sealed. 4 Safeties. 4 Cornerbacks. Wheatley on the bubble. Depending on any Fa's or draftees we get.

Link or no link..I've been on here for 4 years,I don't make crap up...Just did not get to the link once I posted it.

I'm not your fairy tale fiction poster posting BS non existent stories..get it right
Four years congratulations that must be some milestone? Don't be a girl about it they invented the edit button for a reason give Reiss some credit

The Boston Herald's Ian Rapoport blogged yesterday that Butler and Vollmer also reached escalators.

I'm sure all they had to do was start a game or two in order to do so.

Yeah, it was def. widely reported, and if it's true then it changes how I feel about McGowan. I hope for his sake that he realizes how expendable he really is. Good player, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's the #4 safety by the end of TC.

McGowan, more than anybody else on the team, should not be yelling at teammates over physical play.

I think his 'point', such as it is, is that DB v. WR/TE/RB is a "fair" fight, but OL v. DB/DL v. WR "isn't."

[Note I'm not taking a stand here.]

I think people thing too traditionally some times.

we are a 3 safety team. we play more snaps with 3 safety`s than 2. to do that you need 4 good safety`s.

i see sanders /merriweather having the traditional pair with chung playing more near the LOS covering TE and blitzing.

Merriweather was not very effective in part to his size and sanders in part not fast enough as he much more stockier. chung is the hybrid that they needed.

chung and mcgown are fighting for the 3 safety spot now.

I want to see McGowan cut by the time training camp starts. Bad influence on the team.

Take a low-round safety like Cody Grimm (Virginia Tech) who should excel in the Pats scheme - great instincts, good tackler but undersized. If we think we've got a competent player on our hands after rookie camp/OTAs, cut McGowan.
