Matt Cassell=Kyle Orton

Why do you fail to acknowledge that what we know of Cassel (after 4 years in this system, including many preseason games) is not promising? We get it - his epitaph hasn't been written yet. But, Jesus, the odds are against him. He looks unsure in the pocket. He hasn't started since high school. He wasn't good enough to play in college (who stays on a college team four years w/o starting - why didn't he transfer? What does that say about him?). Many "experts" are observing the same thing that clueless posters are observing, why the hell are you so sure that what we have seen to this point should not worry us - that's all I'm saying anyway. And, no I don't have an answer.

QFT.

I don't like what I have seen out of Cassell so far. Rather then this "idiot" nonsense that's getting thrown around the board your thoughts seem based alot more in common sense. I imagine the Pats are hoping O'Connell will be a quick study - or they feel they can acquire a vet.

Pete

i think that is not the greatest comparison. i think orton is what he is, while nobody has any idea about cassel. i think orton has a low ceiling but will continue to give you exactly what he has so far this year. cassel, well who knows. could be crappy, could be great. unfortunately, im not expecting him to be a great player, but somewhere below average.

Please....you must stop posting such realistic and clear minded, rational posts......please cease this unacceptable behavior at once......thanks

You're just upset because Cassel is starting and is ranked ahead of over half the STARTING quarterbacks in the league and we're 2-1.

umm...be happy

cassel != rex grossman

Orton had a hot start but looked like Rex Grossman for alot of last night. Had what, 4 turnovers? Chicago's defense bailed them out again.

Way too early to relegate Cassel to this comparison. Orton sucks.

I have no idea who Cassel reminds me of.

O'Connell reminds me of the QB down in Jacksonville.

O'Connell can get the job done with his feet. This season is a scramble at best, why not let O'Connell pick it up with his running.

You should e-mail Bill Belichick and let him know that you're displeased with Cassel's situation. I am sure he'll gravely consider your deeply prescient "common sense" awareness of the team's quarterback play.

Cassel reminds me of Staubach. A little rusty, sure. No experience, sure, but athletic and scrambles pretty well.

Give it time.

End of this year, toward the playoffs, he'll be much better. SB isn't assured but playoffs is and SB is probable at this point.

Cassel is Cassel and no-one else!

I'm sure there were alot of people saying the same thing about Brady in 2001!

IMO; we haven't seen enough of MC to judge him!

:agree:

What he said.

O'Connell won't be starting this year because he doesn't know the system well enough. He's a worse than back-up at this time, just a guy who can make a few plays and knows some of the play book. With time and practice, he might well be a good QB, but for now, Cassel still is the best option for this team. In fact, Kevin Faulk would make a better emergency QB than O'Connell.

Cassel has all pro potential. Not sure about Orton...I don't think he's anything more than JAG.

Why would BB have picked Cassel and start him now if he wasn't destined for greatness? It will take a little while, sure, but greatness is pre-ordained at this point.

when I started the thread I wasn't trying to dis either Cassel or Orton.

I don't think Orton is great but he is not bad for a back up quarterback.
If Cassell were to become as good as Orton....which I do not think he is at this point...he might not make a bad 2nd or 3rd quarterback.

Seriously you don't think Cassell is as good as Orton? OK, maybe I'm missing something, but I think Cassell is a star. Maybe I am too much of a homer.
