I know the draft is deep at this position of need and Bill could be in good position to restock (especially if Garoppolo get him a 1st round pick) but he routinely tries to mitigate the needs before the draft with some early FA signings, to be in good position to focus on long term value come draft day (and avoid reaching for a position, except for the Safety/ST in 2nd round...).

Considering Sheard and Long might not return and Grissom may never be a significant contributor in D, who would you take as a free agent ?

Andre Branch might command a short contract (1-2 years) in the 5M range as a FA next March (same kind of money as Sheard in 2015) while still in his prime, to get in position for a big long term contract in 2018 or 2019.

I know Mario Williams to the Pats sounds weird since he looks to be done with pro football and his off field / work ethic looks like scary red flags, but is he worth taking a look as a reclamation project a la Chris Long for a way lower salary than what Miami gave him last year (maybe the same contract we gave to Chris Long) ? The only sure advantage would be that he wouldn't count against the comp pick formula (same as Long last year).

Any other DL FA Belichick should target in next year's FA to add some pass rush (JPP ? Campbell ? Fairley ?)

i honestly cant remember the last time i heard someone mention mario williams, which means hes probably not worth picking up, even for vet minimum.

Andre Branch seems to fit the bargain buy that we can hopefully turn into a good player. Back during the draft in 2012 a lot of people liked his versatility/athleticism and thought he would be a good fit for the Patriots. He's had a pretty underwhelming career but seems to be a somewhat solid player.

No to Mario Williams. He's toast. If Branch is available, however, then I'd like to have him here. I wanted him in the draft, and I still think he would be a good fit. He's not an otherworldly pass rusher or anything, but he's a solid athlete and has a diverse enough skillset to find playing time. I like him better than McClellin, although he's been pretty decent.

So I'm guessing mario williams won't see many snaps this weekend?

Imagine if you were a Jest fan and free agent signings were the only thing to start thinking about this time of year every year

Could we see Julius Peppers in a Patriots uniform 8 years after all the rumors? The price could finally be right, although he has said that retirement is an option.

Williams doesn't seem to be a scheme fit even if he wasn't toast. Maybe if he was to come in on the veteran minimum.

Branch seems more like a fit and is still in his prime. IDK, if he would be a top target though.

You undersell the Rats. This is also the season for tampering, whispering anti-Pats propaganda into Goodell's ear, and watching the Pats in the playoffs while rooting for them to lose and suffer injuries.

There is lots to do to keep the little rodents occupied at this time of year.

Wow! Really full calendar! Almost seems simpler to just go 14-2 and take a week to prepare to play a home playoff game against at least one out of the following QB's:

Matt McGloin
Connor Cook
Brock Osweiler
Tom Savage
Ryan Tannehill
Matt Moore

Really, the best possible QBs for each team in the AFC:

Alex Smith
Ben Roethlisberger
Brock Osweiler (or Savage..?)
Matt McGloin
Matt Moore

Are you afraid of ANY of these?
