This was a Kraft documentary crew. If the league had done it then I agree it's not a problem for the organization. Since it wasn't, it is a problem.

1) The company that did the filming has no direct relation to the Patriots.
2) The company received permission from the NFL and from the Browns to be in the Stadium to film.
3) Since it was the BROWNS stadium, it's the BROWNS' responsibility to notify the opposing team that a NON-NFL film crew is around.
4) Since the crew had no direct affiliation with the Patriots, why would the Patriots need to notify anyone of anything?

Yes the Patriots did do something wrong. Their football ops didn't thankfully but they hired a video crew who didn't seem to know or care that pointing a video camera at another team's sidelines was against league rules. We all saw the tape- what is the argument?

How stupid do you have to be to allow something like that to happen. This of all teams. Next time hire a crew that knows the rules.

They traded Jones for Cooper (who never played a down) and a second rd pick that they sent to NO for a 3rd and 4th, which ended up being Thuney and Mitchell.

So they got Thuney and Mitchell for six games. Thuney is a good player, but the differnce between not having Tuney and having Jones is night and day.

Compare that with what the Raiders got for Khalil Mack.

The onus is on the league to be fair and consistent, not on the Patriots to toe some perfect, arbitrary, ambiguous, and constantly changing line.

We cannot expect the League to stop stealing picks. It’s like putting the fox with the hens and then being angry the chicken are all gone... expect them to steal.

It was an optics punishment and undeserved. That said the fact that Bob ****ing Kraft didn’t have the wisdom that any of us could have had that if his team, of all teams, was going to do something regarding video taping the sideline of an opponent that he should go above and beyond to have it cleared by every single possible person before he considered it is astounding. I can’t believe he was surprised that a headline including “Patriots”, “video”, and “sideline” wasn’t going to cause a massive PR issue. It’s so dumb. But it’s something anybody with any foresight could see a mike away.

Worst part of how unnecessary it all is. Belichick listens to a memo and doesn’t rub his nose at the league over something he felt gave no advantage, Spygate never happens, we reign in two bumbling equipment managers who act shady and deflategate never happens, Kraft hires a high class escort who will be discreet instead of getting a middle aged hag to rub him off in a massage parlor and we aren’t embarrassed right after a Super Bowl, Kraft doesn’t need to have his stupid focus series or actually makes sure everyone is informed of what is going on and this doesn’t blow up and cost us picks. We are never going to get the benefit of the doubt anymore, and I can forgive the first or second time, but now it’s just negligence to not run an airtight ship and leave nothing to chance.

Like yeah I get they were all blown way out of proportion but you have to know that the top dog is always going to hand a target and people want to take them down a peg and after the first time you had to know the damage was done and you aren’t getting any leniency.

It’s all completely needless and it’s been the worst part of an incredible run

jones had 19 sacks, 8FF last year. We traded him at his peak. He should have netted us easily a High first rounder. belichick the gm has been awful the past 5 years.

I have a theory about the league handicapping the Patriots that I'll preface by saying is the same sort of baseless, tinfoil hat nonsense that we make fun of other fanbases for coming up with. On the other hand, it's been rattling around in my head for a while, so this is as good a time as any to throw it out there: In addition to over-punishing New England for minor or non-existent infractions, what if there is also an unspoken agreement among other teams to be very stingy when making trades with the Patriots? In other words, you don't want to be the team that hands Belichick a Herschel Walker-type trade.

Chandler Jones has been brought up in this thread. The Patriots received a second round pick and a highly drafted guard who was a bust with Arizona and every other team he played with in exchange for Jones. Khalil Mack brought back 1st and 6th round picks in 2019 and 1st and 3rd picks in 2020. Jamal Adams and a 4th round pick were traded for a starting safety, 1st and 3rd picks in 2021 and a 1st round pick in 2022. Jimmy Garoppolo was traded for a second round pick. You can go back 15 years: Matt Schaub had 2 starts as a back up for the Falcons, but he was traded to Houston in 2007 for 2 second round picks and a swap of 1st round draft spots. In 2008, Matt Cassel, who started 15 games that season, was traded for a second round pick and the Patriots had to throw in Mike Vrabel, as well.

It just seems like when there's a talented, non-Patriots player on the trade market, the reaction from interested teams is "How many first rounders do you want? 2? How about 3? Whatever you want." When the Patriots are trying to make a trade, the reaction is "Gee, I don't know. Maybe I could give you a second round pick, but I'm not sure. I really need to talk to my manager. You know how it is." The Patriots have traded away some very good players over the past 20 years, but they never seem to get that big haul of draft picks in return that other teams get.
