Logan Mankins retiring.

he was one bad ass. loved the attitude.
And many media pundits thought Bill making this pick @ 32 was a reach.....

The only other Patriots o-lineman in Patriots' history that deserves to be even mentioned in the same breath as Hog Hannah. Not in Hannah's stratosphere, but about as close as you can get.

Definitely deserves HOF consideration. Will be a first ballot Patriots HOFer.

Leon Gray, Jon Morris were pretty good Pats HOF'ers.. not sure he will be a first rounder there are quite a few coming out of our glory years and as he left on less than good terms may have to wait a while..

Wish it had ended better and he'd got a ring, but tons of respect for the guy. It takes a special kind of player to play through a torn ACL.

Are those the only modern day guards in the Hall or?
No, there were a few more if you go back even further but the point is the same.

The voters hold Guards to an insanely high level so very few players have careers good enough and long enough to get in.

Take Bruce Mathews - 14 pro bowls. LOL

Logan was a beast in NE and I appreciate all of his hard work and sacrifice for this team. I wish him well in his retirement, and look forward to his Pats HOF night.

Better to retire a year too early than a year too late.

Does he need to come back for a one-day contract or anything to get into the Hall?
Assume since Bledsoe and McGinest are in, then the Pats-trade rule is in effect.

I wish the manimal a great post NFL life ...
guy gave us 110% even when severely injured.

I think it will be a stretch for Mankins to make the hall. For whatever reason, the voters have set the bar pretty high for the guard position.

If you compare his accomplishments to to other inductees, he doesn't quite measure up.

Mankins:
Will Shields:
John Hannah:
Larry Allen (played two seasons at Guard):

Wow great list, thanks for putting that together

You're right it appears he doesnt have much of a shot at the hall in Canton, but certainly he should get inducted into the Patriots hall

A class act? In '10 he publicly called kraft and BB liers while holding the team up over a new contract ala Dion Branch. i wouldn't call that a class act.
I don't really hold that against him. When it comes to contracts, it's hard to know who's in the right from where we sit.

Neither do I.

While I never met the guy, Mankins doesn't strike me a kind of guy who would just call someone out falsely and call them a liar just so he can make a buck.

Was ticked when we traded him.

Same here. There aren't a lot of Belichick moves that don't work out well for the Patriots, but I'd consider this to be one of them

As an employee in a league with a weak union, non-guaranteed contracts, and about a 100% chance that a player will suffer major injuries that will affect the rest of his life, it's hard to get upset about a guy playing hardball to be properly compensated.

The NFL had to be dragged into court to do the right thing on CTE, and the union has done a terrible job getting these players any form of security long-term. It's only getting worse with the income gap between the rookies and journeymen, and the elite players. The CBA is awful, as we've seen with Deflategate.

It's a business. Every player is a one-man corporation with some help from his family, lawyers, accountants and an agent. Off-season negotiations get nasty. So what? Kraft is a business man. Belichick is the toughest SOB in the league. They met their match in Logan Mankins, and he got paid.

Mankins gave everything on the field. He played with a torn ACL, a broken leg, and was always the first guy to get in the grill of defensive linemen or linebackers who took a cheap shot at Brady or another teammate. He represented toughness and led a great OL for years.

Mankins gave the Patriots everything they wanted from a starting guard. I think they should hire him as an assistant OL coach to Scarnecchia.

Wish him nothing but the best going forward. One of my favorite players for a number of years, here. Still think the Oline misses his toughness and physicality.

A true class act and was as tough a son of a ***** as they come. I hope that he, like other OL, isn't affected by CTE down the road. It's a very violent position so I hope for the best in the future when it comes to his long-term health.
