Lets not forget either, that Lendale White turned up to the Rose Bowl game heavier than at Christmas. His reason? Having eaten a lot at Christmas.

Two things bug me.

1) You're preparing for the biggest game of your life (granted he's somewhat spoilt by winning a previous national championship game) and you let yourself get out of shape. How would we feel about Corey putting on a few pounds over Christmas because he 'ate too much' with a game against the Colts a week or two away?

2) The way it was reported, it sounded like he had no problems with being a bit out of weight. If some of the other reports (his indignance about not running, about being 'the man' on draft day) are true, then we're starting to get a good view of his character. Maybe Carroll was a bit soft for a guy like Lendale. It'd be good to see a Coughlin/Parcells type coach get him and give him a hard time in the pros.

Yeah, this is a major problem with some college athletes. They are talented enough to get by, and even achieve success in college, with poor attitudes/work ethics. Then they hit the pros, where everyone is bigger-fater-stronger. The scrubs that won't even make the 45-man game day roster are better than what he has been seeing.

Some athletes overcome this by working harder when the hit the pros, some never adjust and just fade into oblivion.

None of these kids seem to realize that not being in shape for Pro Days, Combine, etc cost them real money via lower draft position and some teams shy away until the player is low enough in the draft that a gamble is worth it.

I like White. I think he has the potential to be a great Pro. But he has the equal potential to be a total bust. Not worth gambling your first round pick over.
