I actually used to respect Rice, but that changed when he publicly took a shot at the Pats. Players and coaches who talk trash away from the field bother me most of all. That's why I no longer have any respect for Don Shula and never had any for Rex Ryan.

I think you would have a point about the late selection of Brady if the Pats weren't the only NYJFL team to contact Brady's college coach. That tells me that the Pats were already ahead of the rest of the league. Then, because of **** Rehbein's insistence that Brady would be a household name some day, they took him.

Of course nobody could have ever predicted how truly great he would become, and that combined with the perfect HC has put us where we are now. Basking, as you called it.

Btw, I have to admit that I was as crushed as Bills fans when Norwood's FG went wide. I hated the NFC back then.

Competence is drafting a HOF QB, period. No one ever criticized the 49ers for taking Montana in the 3rd round.

And speaking of incompetence, you are incompetent as a fan if you don't recognize how incompetent your franchise has been for the last twenty years. The Bills deserved credit for building a team that went to four Super Bowls just as the Patriots deserve credit for building those that won four Super Bowls.

You are one of the best posters here. You really want to put up a three year sample size? Come on man, you guys had Bledsoe who was sweet but had flaws, then hit on a lottery pick to get 20 + years of really good QB play. That's being blessed. Not many teams get that.

There are likely plenty of Patriots fans who either arrived after the sour years or simply forgot those days. I sure don't forget the lean years. The Pats had very little to smile about from 1960 through 1995. One very hopeful season in 1976 and a cinderella story in 1985 that ended as most of those stories do. When the Bills were up, the Pats were down. This run of the Pats has been phenomenal, and I can appreciate it will frustrate fans of other teams.

I respect the Bills fans who stand by their team. In general, I see them as a great fan base. Rex should make it even more entertaining, and I will watch the game today to see how they have developed. I have zero respect for fans, coaches or players who claim cheating in losses. To those fans, read any objective book on Belichick's coaching or read any objective story on Brady's approach to football conditioning and tell me how that compares to the average or good QBs and coaches. I agree with this, and just implore you, Let's Go, to drop the "lucky" theme around Brady. If you read any of the background on that, which several posters have alluded to in this thread, you'll see that Brady's drafting was the outcome of a disciplined evaluation machine, and the team keeping him as the #4 was because they liked the risk/reward probabilities. And they were right. Stop comparing the Bills and Pats QB searches as if one was lucky and was wasn't. One was competent and one wasn't.

If you keep this cr*p up here, you'll find yourself in a never ending argument with Deus and Joker and getting nowhere interesting on football.

A similar story may be unfolding with Butler, who like Brady was championed by a single Patriots scout and then came to camp undrafted, and because of what he showed in camp, got a job, despite being "behind" more heralded players. He is now a folk hero, and is being given the chance to be the #1 corner on a perennial SB contender. That's not luck, either, on his part or the Patriots.

Certainly agree with the post, as many of books and documentaries establish the draft research done by the Pats. The 'lucky' argument is always directed to some extent at the "If you knew what you had, would you have drafted him then?" theory. Of course he would have gone in the first round given his career. Even Belichick would admit he did not know precisely what Brady was at the time. But unlike 31 teams, he saw a reason to draft him based on the lobbying of one voice in the organization (he listens to advice and counsel from his assistants as well). The same thing in picking up Butler.

Every team has these stories, and many players become success stories on unmeasurables (and Brady has those in absurd quantities). But unlike other teams, Belichick gave the 6th round pick a chance and let him succeed on the team. He was willing to dump a franchise QB to facilitate that success. It is more than just drafting the guy, as Brady may not have seen opportunities to shine in other organizations and may have simply disappeared as an unknown. How many teams cling to higher round picks and dump undrafted or lesser picks (e.g., Woodhead and the Jets)?

Heres how it goes in Western NY the last so many years. The Bills will start out strong or at least half way decent and you get all kinds of salivitating Blls fans saying "this is the year"! this is the year we smack down the Patriots and go to the Superbowl, forget about just reaching the playoffs, its always the SB.

Then reality does its thing and low and behold the Patriots win 2 out of 2 and the Bills poop the bed like someone slipped imodium into their drinks at night.

Then you see all kinds of hating and cheating accusation comments towards the Patriots on several Buffalo sports Team message boards...its pretty much a perennial thing.

But hey, you are correct, the Bills will not be moving to Toronto and thats a good thingm they have the CFL why would they wan`t the Bills? Besides the Patriots are on Canadian Satellite TV every week, they`re almost like the local Team up there.

The play clock is 40 seconds, but it's 25 seconds from the time the ball is declared ready for play. Brady notified the refs that the clock needed to be reset to 25 seconds as the play clock was already down to about 10 seconds by the time the refs were ready with the ball. Brady simply knows the rules well and those clowns on the Bills blog are whining about it.

It's like Big Ben complaining about the defensive shift or Harbaugh complaining about eligible receivers. Learn the rules or stop complaining. Whiny brats.

Competition itself will have players- from any sport -seeking advantages. That's what it does; what it is. Of course, this is why there are referees. Otherwise, what would happen? What a curiosity that so many stand back in awe as competitive advantages materialise...as though they do not recognise the source. In principle, I see the same thing(s) with the economic sector..it turning everyone/everything into a commodity. Then everyone stands back, once again, in awe...as though they do not recognise any of it.

And this competitive advantage has everyone participating. Take fans who show up with their favorite noise-makers. And what is the goal here? Isn't it to drown out the visiting team? And, of course, that is not cheating because...besides making everyone uncomfortable THE RULES do not (currently) forbid it. How Romanesque!

Today, this competitive advantage thing has reached into the households. What can we do to increase out team's chance of winning? So, the question I will ask is: What might you try if you were on the team? What might you employ that is (currently) allowed by the rules (pushing them to the extent that people seek tax deductions)?

Bottom line: If you don't like the effect(s) of COMPETITION, consider playing fore the tie.

It's hard to take the complaining owners, managers and fans seriously on their anti-competition rhetoric. The same ones will silently encourage the use of steroids if it creates a hysteria that is deemed good for the sport...as least whilst is is going on. And the ones complaining about one thing are typically found doing the other...or the same. It's just the look at this hand, whilst the other is busy bit in a different form.
